2023 North Carolina Tar Heels Baseball Team
The 2023 North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team represented the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Tar Heels played their home games at Boshamer Stadium, and were a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by head coach Scott Forbes, who was in his third season. He was assisted by Bryant Gaines, Jesse Wierzbicki, and Jason Howell. Dave Arendas served as director of operations. The Tar Heels finished 36–24 overall and 14–14 in ACC play to finish in fourth place in the Coastal Division. They finished tied for seventh/eight in seeding for the ACC Tournament. Scott Forbes (baseball)
Scott Forbes is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current head baseball coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. He played college baseball at Middle Georgia College transferring in 1994 to North Carolina Wesleyan College where he played for head coach Mike Fox from 1995–1997. Coaching career In 1999, Forbes followed his head coach at NC Wesleyan, Mike Fox, to Fox's alma mater, North Carolina, to become an assistant coach. Forbes then became an assistant coach for the Winthrop Eagles on August 27, 2002. He returned to Chapel Hill in 2006, and remained an assistant under Fox for the next 14 years. On August 7, 2020, Fox retired as the head baseball coach of the Tar Heels, and Forbes was named his successor. Forbes' tenure as the Tar Heel head coach got off to a hot start, going 6–0 before suffering their first loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on February 28, 2021. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). Western Carolina Catamounts Baseball
The Western Carolina Catamounts are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Western Carolina University. The Catamounts compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Southern Conference. Western Carolina fields 16 varsity sports teams. The men's and women's teams are called the Catamounts. Nickname The nickname Catamount derives from The nickname evolved from a contest that was held on campus in 1933. The school was called Western Carolina Teachers College at that time and its teams were known as "the Teachers". Stony Brook Seawolves Baseball
The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represents Stony Brook University in NCAA Division I men's college baseball. Stony Brook currently competes in the CAA and plays its home games on Joe Nathan Field. Matt Senk has coached the team since the beginning of the 1991 season. The team has won the America East tournament six times in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019. In 2011, the Seawolves claimed their first America East regular season championship. Stony Brook has participated in the NCAA tournament on six separate occasions, winning its first game in 2010. 2023 VCU Rams Baseball Team
The 2023 VCU Rams baseball team represented Virginia Commonwealth University during the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Rams played their home games at The Diamond as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They were led by head coach Bradley LeCroy, in his first season with the program. The Rams finished the season with a 25–30 record. Previous season The 2022 VCU Rams baseball team notched a 42–20 (19–5) regular season record. VCU successfully defended their tournament championship, winning the 2022 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball tournament over Richmond, and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. Clark–LeClair Stadium is a baseball park located on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the home field of the East Carolina Pirates of the American Athletic Conference. The stadium was named after Pirate alumnus and contributor Bill Clark and former Pirates coach Keith LeClair. ECU's current head coach is Cliff Godwin. The stadium has 3,000 stadium bleacher seats, plus space for several thousand more spectators in "The Jungle." The East Carolina Pirates baseball team is an intercollegiate baseball team representing East Carolina University in NCAA Division I college baseball and participates as a full member of the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates have made regular appearances in the NCAA Tournament. As of 2021, they have the most NCAA tournament appearances without a College World Series appearance. The Longwood Lancers baseball team represents Longwood University, which is located in Farmville, Virginia. The Lancers are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the Big South Conference. They began competing in Division I in 2005 and joined the Big South Conference in 2013 after 8 seasons as an independent. The Longwood Lancers play all home games on campus at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
