2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier
The 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier was a cricket tournament that formed part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. In an expanded qualification pathway for women's cricket in Europe, this was the first time that a second division was included. The first stage of the tournament was Division Two, held in Jersey in May and June 2023. Six teams played in Division Two, with the top two sides progressing to Division One, which was played in Spain in September 2023. The top two teams in Division One advanced to the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier along with Ireland, Sri Lanka and six other regional qualifiers. France and Italy advanced from Division Two. Scotland and Netherlands were the top two sides in Division One and therefore advanced to the global qualifier. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. Saint Saviour, Jersey
St Saviour (Jèrriais: ; ) is a parish of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is located directly east of St Helier. It has a population of 13,580. It has a land surface area of 3.6 square miles (9.3 km2) and has a very small coastline at Le Dicq. The parish is quite urbanised, hosting the suburbs and exurbs for the town of St Helier. Grainville Cricket Ground
Grainville Cricket Ground is a cricket ground in Saint Saviour, Jersey. History The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1988 when Jersey played the Hampshire Second XI. Jersey have used the ground since then and it has held a number of international tournaments, including matches in the 2008 World Cricket League Division Five which was won by Afghanistan, and more recently the 2010 European Cricket Championship Division One, which Jersey won. The ground also hosted four matches for a combined Channel Islands team when it was permitted to take part in the English Minor counties MCCA Knockout Trophy competition in 2001 and 2002. Not Out
In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Division One
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. Grace Wetherall (born 11 November 2006) is a cricketer who plays for the Jersey women's cricket team. She is the first player to score a WT20I half-century batting at number eight. As of July 2024 she remains the only person to achieve this feat. Trinity Smith (born 2 August 2004) is a cricketer who plays for the Jersey women's cricket team. She is the first Jersey woman to score a half-century in a WT20I. Smith is also the first player from the island - male or female - to be nominated for an ICC Player of the Month Award. Karthika Vijayaraghavan
Karthika Vijayaraghavan (born 18 April 1988) is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the Germany women's national cricket team as a wicket-keeper-batter. Early life Vijayaraghavan was born in Ambur, Tamil Nadu, India. Anne Bierwisch
Anne Bierwisch (born 26 December 1987) is a German toxicologist and cricketer who plays for the national cricket team as a batter. She was the first player, male or female, to take a hat-trick for Germany in a Twenty20 International. Early life and career Bierwisch was born in Sondershausen, Thuringia, in the then East Germany. Emma Catherine Bargna (born 24 November 2004) is a German cricketer who plays for the national cricket team as a bowler. She was the first player, male or female, to take a five-wicket haul for Germany in a Twenty20 International.
