2023 Giro Di Sicilia
The 2023 Giro di Sicilia is a road cycling stage race that took place between 11 and 14 April 2023 on the island of Sicily in Italy. The race is rated as a category 2.1 event on the 2023 UCI Europe Tour calendar, and is the 27th edition of the Giro di Sicilia. Teams Five of the 18 UCI WorldTeams, eight UCI ProTeams, eleven UCI Continental teams and one national team make up the 25 teams that are participating in the race. 2023 UCI Europe Tour
The 2023 UCI Europe Tour was the nineteenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. Throughout the season, points were awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determined how many points were awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points were awarded. Niccolò Bonifazio (born 9 October 1993) is an Italian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Early career Bonifazio was born in Cuneo. Bonifazio's professional career began in 2013 when he rode as a stagiaire for UCI WorldTeam . He joined the team the following year as a regular rider. In September 2014, Bonifazio took the biggest victory of his career so far by winning the Coppa Agostoni in a bunch sprint. In addition to this, he won a stage of the Tour of Japan and three stages and 2nd place of the Tour of Hainan. In 2015, he booked another victory, the Gran Premio di Lugano, also in a sprint. Bonifazio placed 3rd in the Coppa Ugo Agostoni, which he won the preceding year. Bonifazio placed fifth in Milan–San Remo. Vittoria, Sicily
Vittoria () is a town and in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, southern Italy. With its 64,212 inhabitants, Vittoria is the second most populated municipality of the province after Ragusa. History Vittoria is the youngest town in the province and it presents a modern checkerboard structure, with wide and straight streets. The town's womenfolk are known to still do intricate embroideries, first adopted during the period of Arab rule in Sicily. Geography The town was founded on a very fertile valley known as "Boscopiano". On the south of the city there is the "natural reserve of Aleppo pines" (Riserva naturale del Pino d'Aleppo). Canicattì
Canicattì (; scn, Caniattì) is a town and ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily, located about southeast of Palermo and about east of Agrigento. In 2016, it had a population of 35,698. History The archaeological remains in the city and in the neighbourhood testify the presence of a settlement before the Roman age. The name of Canicattì is of Arabic origin, from ', meaning 'clay ditch'. During the conquest of Sicily by the Normans, the local Muslim lord was besieged and defeated by baron Salvatore Palmieri (1087), a follower of Roger I of Sicily: the latter, as reward, offered him a sword and the lordship over the fief.
