Seminole Soccer Complex
The Seminole Soccer Complex is the on-campus soccer stadium at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The 2,000-seat stadium was built in 1998. 2020 Florida State Seminoles Women's Soccer Team
The 2020 Florida State Seminoles women's soccer team represented Florida State University during the 2020 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. It was the 26th season of the university fielding a program. The Seminoles were led by 16th year head coach Mark Krikorian. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACC played a reduced schedule in 2020 and the NCAA Tournament was postponed to 2021. The Seminoles finished the fall season 11–0–0, 8–0–0 in ACC play, to finish in first place. As the first seed in the ACC Tournament, they defeated Notre Dame, Duke, and finally North Carolina to claim the championship. Jenna Gray Nighswonger (born November 28, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder/ defender for NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States women's national team. She lifted the 2023 NWSL Championship trophy with Gotham FC and was named the 2023 NWSL Rookie of the Year. Early life Nighswonger played youth soccer for Slammers FC, winning a U14 ECNL National Championship. She also participated in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program. Nighswonger graduated from Huntington Beach High School in December 2018. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). The 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer season was the 34th season of women's varsity soccer in the conference. Virginia were the defending regular season champions. Florida State were the defending ACC tournament champions. The Seminoles are also the defending national champions. North Carolina and Florida State were co-regular season champions with 8–2–0 records. Florida State won the ACC tournament over North Carolina, by a score of 2–1 in the final.
