Oberhof Bobsleigh, Luge, And Skeleton Track
The Oberhof bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track is a venue used for bobsled, luge and skeleton located in Oberhof, Germany. History Oberhof had been the home of sledding activities since 1905, mostly bobsleigh. In 1931, the facility hosted the first ever FIBT World Championships in the two-man bobsleigh event won by the two-man German team of Hanns Killian and Sebastian Huber. After World War II, Oberhof was partitioned into East Germany. International Luge Federation
The International Luge Federation ( French: Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course (FIL); German: Internationaler Rennrodelverband) is the main international federation for all luge sports. Founded by 13 nations at Davos, Switzerland in 1957, it has members of 53 national luge associations and is based in Berchtesgaden, Germany. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, in March 2022 the FIL banned all Russian athletes, coaches, and officials from its events, suspended all Russian officials appointed to its Commissions and Working Groups, and deemed Russia ineligible to host any of its events. Zachary DiGregorio (born November 14, 2001) is an American luger. He competed in the doubles event and in the team relay event at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Early life DiGregorio was born on November 14, 2001, and grew up in Medway, Massachusetts Luge career When DiGregorio was ten years old, his family attended the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search event, which was being held in the nearby town Carlisle. "We got ice cream after and didn't think much of it at the time," he later said. Tucker West (born June 15, 1995) is an American luger who, at the age of 18, was the youngest male ever to qualify to represent the United States in the men's luge at the Olympics. West placed 22nd in the men's single competition at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Career West attended National Sports Academy High in Lake Placid, New York. Before going away to school he was a resident of Ridgefield, Connecticut. When West was a boy, his father designed and built a wood luge track in the backyard of their Ridgefield home. West attends Union College in Schenectady, New York. Summer Britcher (born March 21, 1994) is an American luger who earned a place on the Olympic team to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics . She was the youngest woman on the U.S. Olympic Luge team in Sochi. Life Britcher is the daughter of Carrie Britcher and Baltimore City Fire Department Battalion Chief William Britcher. She first became involved in luge at age 11, when she spoke to Gordy Sheer of USA Luge at a promotional/scouting event called the Luge Challenge at the Ski Liberty in Pennsylvania. Sheer suggested she go to Lake Placid for a try-out. Britcher later moved to Lake Placid to train. Britcher attended Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, where she played on the soccer and tennis teams. She graduated from high school in 2012.
