2023 CAF Women's Champions League WAFU Zone A Qualifiers
The 2023 CAF Women's Champions League WAFU Zone A Qualifiers was the 3rd edition of CAF Women's Champions League WAFU Zone A Qualifiers tournament organized by the WAFU for the women's clubs of association nations. This edition was held from 5 to 13 August 2023 in Paynesville, Liberia. The winners of the tournament qualified for the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League final tournament. Paynesville, Liberia
Paynesville (sometimes Paynesward) is a suburb east of Monrovia, Liberia. It is geographically larger than the city of Monrovia and is expanding eastward along the Robertsfield Highway and northeastward beyond Red Light Market, one of the largest market areas in Liberia. Paynesville is often considered a part of the Greater Monrovia area. It was the location of the Paynesville Omega Transmitter, the highest structure of Africa, until the tower's demolition in 2011. Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex
The Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium (frequently abbreviated SKD Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium which is part of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia, a suburb of the country's capital, Monrovia. Built in 1986, it is used mostly for football matches and has an athletics track, though it has also been used for a reggae concert, political rallies, IDP refuge, and Ebola treatment. The largest stadium in Liberia, its spectator capacity is 22,000. Background The stadium was commissioned by President William Tolbert, who did not start the construction and was removed from power in a 1980 coup d'état by 17 enlisted men of the Armed Forces of Liberia led by Samuel Doe. The Malian Football Federation (french: Fédération Malienne de Football, FMF) is the governing body of football in Mali. Korka Fall (born 19 February 1990) is a Senegalese women's international footballer who plays as a forward. She is a member of the Senegal women's national football team. She was part of the team at the 2012 African Women's Championship, and has continued to play for the team through to 2016. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
