2023 Balearic Island Council Elections
The 2023 Balearic Island Council elections were held on Sunday, 28 May 2023, to elect the 12th Island Councils of Mallorca and Menorca and the 5th Island Councils of Formentera and Ibiza. All 76 seats in the four Island Councils were up for election. The elections were held simultaneously with 2023 Spanish regional elections, regional elections in twelve Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous communities and 2023 Spanish local elections, local elections all throughout Spain. Mallorca
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean. The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983. There are two small islands off the coast of Mallorca: Cabrera (southeast of Palma) and Dragonera (west of Palma). The anthem of Mallorca is " La Balanguera". Vox (political Party)
Vox (Latin for "voice", often stylized as VOX; ) is a national-conservative political party in Spain. Founded in 2013, it is currently led by party president Santiago Abascal, vice presidents Jorge Buxadé, Javier Ortega Smith, Reyes Romero, and secretary general Ignacio Garriga. Vox is identified as right-wing to far-right by academics and mainstream journalists. Més Per Menorca
Més per Menorca ( en, More for Menorca, MpM) is a Menorcan political party. It was initially a coalition formed by the Socialist Party of Menorca, the Republican Left of the Balearic Islands, The Greens of Menorca, Equo, local parties and independents around the island until 2017. MpM was created in July 2014. Until May 2017 it had been linked to the similarly-named alliance in Majorca. History MpM gained 3 deputies in the Balearic elections of 2015, being the third most voted party of the island in those elections (after the PP and the Socialist Party). In the local elections held the same day, the coalition only presented a list in Ciutadella de Menorca, where it gained 6 town councillors and the mayorship. People's Party (Spain)
The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. The People's Party was a 1989 re-foundation of People's Alliance (AP), a party led by former minister of the dictatorship Manuel Fraga and founded back in 1976 as alliance of post-Francoist proto-parties. The new party combined the conservative AP with several small Christian democratic and liberal parties (the party call this fusion of views "the Reformist Centre"). Més per Mallorca ( en, More for Majorca, MÉS) is a Majorcan political coalition formed by Socialist Party of Majorca (PSM), IniciativaVerds (IV) and Entesa per Mallorca (ExM), as well as some small independent, local parties around the island. Proposta per les Illes (Catalan for "Proposal for the Islands"), or simply El Pi ('' pi'' means pine in Catalan) is a liberal Balearic autonomist political party, formed in November 2012 from the merger of several nationalist and regionalist parties: Convergència per les Illes (the successor of the Majorcan Union), the Lliga Regionalista de les Illes Balears, the Menorcan Union and Es Nou Partit. Podemos (, translated in English as "We Can"), * ca, Podem, * gl, Podemos, is a left-wing populist political party in Spain.
