The women's doubles tournament of the 2023 BWF World Championships took place from 21 to 27 August 2023 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. Royal Arena
The Royal Arena is a multi-use indoor arena in the Ørestad South area of Copenhagen, Denmark. The ground was broken for construction on 26 June 2013 and the arena opened in February 2017. It has a capacity of 13,000 for sporting events and up to 16,000 (either sitting or standing) for concerts. Background In Copenhagen, Parken Stadium, which is primarily a football stadium, is the largest indoor arena in Denmark (when its retractable roof is closed), with a seating capacity of 38,065. For most international sporting events, Brøndby Hall and Ballerup Super Arena were not considered large enough, while Parken Stadium is too large. Mayu Matsumoto
is a Japanese badminton player. Born in Hokkaido, she graduated from Shiritsu Towanomorisanai High School. She was part of the Hokuto Bank team. Matsumoto was awarded as the 2018 Most Improved Player of the Year by the BWF together with her partner Wakana Nagahara. They obtained the honor after their win in the 2018 BWF World Championships title and improving their ranking from 14 to 3 in the world. In 30 April 2019, she reached a career high as a women's doubles world No. 1. Career 2021 In March, Matsumoto and her partner Wakana Nagahara won their first World Tour Super 1000 title in the All England Open defeating their compatriots, the defending champion, and current world number 1, Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota in the final. Liu Xuanxuan
Liu Xuanxuan (; born 18 June 2000) is a Chinese badminton player from Hunan. She was part of the national junior team that won the mixed team title at the 2017 and 2018 World Junior Championships and also at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships. In the individual junior event, she was the girls' doubles champion at the 2018 World Junior Championships partnered with Xia Yuting. Liu won her first senior international title at the 2018 Lingshui China Masters in the mixed doubles event partnered with Guo Xinwa. Li Wenmei
Li Wenmei (; born 2 November 1999) is a Chinese badminton player from Maoping, Hubei. She began to play badminton at the age of seven and entered the Hubei team training centre in June 2010 as the singles player. She was selected to join the second team of Hubei province, who was trained by the former World Champion, Wei Yili, in April 2013. She represented Hubei province competed at the 2017 National Games of China in Tianjin, helps the team as the first singles and second doubles player achieved their best record for 42 years history by winning the silver medal at the Games. Li was part of the national junior team that won the gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships, and also claimed the bronze medals in the girls' and mixed doubles event. Thinaah Muralitharan
Thinaah Muralitharan (born 3 January 1998) is a Malaysian badminton player who entered the national team in 2013. She was the gold medalists in the women's doubles and mixed team event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Career In 2021, Muralitharan with her partner Pearly Tan, clinched their first BWF World Tour title in the Swiss Open. In 2022, Muralitharan and Tan claimed the French Open title, becomes the first ever Malaysian women's doubles to achieve this feat. Personal life Muralitharan is the second child of S. Pearly Tan
Pearly Tan Koong Le (; born 14 March 2000) is a Malaysian badminton player who entered the national team in 2013. She was the gold medalists in the women's doubles and mixed team event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In the junior event, she won the girls' doubles silver at the 2018 Asian and World Junior Championships. Career In 2021, Tan with her partner Thinaah Muralitharan, clinched their first BWF World Tour title in the Swiss Open. Benyapa Aimsaard
Benyapa Aimsaard ( th, เบญญาภา เอี่ยมสอาด; born 29 August 2002) is a Thai badminton player. Career Aimsaard educated at the Demonstration School of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University. She entered the international circuit in 2015, at a very young age of 13. At the Asian U–15 Junior Championships, she finished as mixed doubles runner-up with Setthanan Piyawatcharavijit. At the age of 15, she was able to compete in the senior international tournament, by becoming a finalist in the 2017 Lao International Series. Aimsaard later won the 2018 Asian U–17 Junior Championships in the girls' singles and doubles events. Rawinda Prajongjai ( th, รวินดา ประจงใจ; born 29 June 1993) is a Thai badminton player. She was part of the national women's team that clinched the gold medal at the 2015, 2017 and 2019 Southeast Asian Games, also won the women's doubles title in 2017.
