2022–23 Wichita State Shockers Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Wichita State Shockers men's basketball team represented Wichita State University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Shockers, led by third year head coach Isaac Brown, played their home games at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas as members of the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 16–14, 9–9 in AAC Play to finish in sixth place. They defeated Tulsa in the first round of the AAC tournament before losing in the second round to Tulane. On March 12, 2023, the school fired head coach Isaac Brown. On March 22, the school named Oral Roberts head coach Paul Mills the team's new head coach. Isaac Brown (basketball)
Isaac Leon Brown (born May 7, 1969) is an American college basketball coach who was most recently the head coach at Wichita State. Playing career Brown is a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi. He played basketball at Pascagoula High School and helped the team reach the state championship game in 1988. Brown played at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College from 1988 to 1990. He played one season at Texas A&M, averaging 12 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while starting 17 games, but was dismissed in February 1991 by coach Kermit Davis. Brown decided to transfer to Northeast Louisiana. After sitting out a season, he helped Northeast Louisiana capture the 1993 Southland Conference title with a 17–1 record, finish 27–4 overall and receive a berth in the NCAA Tournament. 2022 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2022 American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 10–13, 2022, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. All games of the tournament were televised by ESPN Inc. The winner of the tournament, the Houston Cougars, received the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA tournament. Seeds Teams were seeded by conference record (tiebreakers were not required as no teams had identical conference records). The top five teams received byes to the quarterfinals. With the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States still ongoing and the possibility of cancelled games, teams were required to play a minimum of 75% of the average number of conference games played in order to be seeded by winning percentage for the conference tournament; those with less games would be seeded below those meeting the minimum. Tyson Etienne (born September 17, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Wichita State Shockers. High school career Etienne began playing high school basketball as a freshman at Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood, New Jersey.
