Wellington Phoenix Football Club is a professional association football club based in Wellington, New Zealand. It competes in the Australian A-League, under licence from Football Federation Australia. Phoenix entered the competition in the 2007–08 season after its formation in March 2007, by New Zealand Football to replace New Zealand Knights as a New Zealand-based club in the Australian A-League competition. The club is one of the few clubs in the world to compete in a league of a different confederation ( AFC) from that of the country where it is based ( OFC). Steven Ugarkovic (born 19 August 1994) is an Australian soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder for A-League club Melbourne City. Career Osijek Ugarkovic started his professional career at Croatian club NK Osijek, moving from his home city of Sydney, Australia to pursue a career in football at the age of 17. Newcastle Jets Ugarkovic returned to Australia in the January transfer window of the 2015-16 A-League season. Sam Harry Sutton (born 10 December 2001) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a left-back for A-League Men club Wellington Phoenix. Callan Rennie Elliot (born 7 July 1999) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a right back for A-League Men club Auckland FC. Club career Born in Scotland and emigrating to New Zealand as a young child, Elliot was educated at Nelson College and Rathkeale College. Nikko Daniel Boxall (born 24 February 1992) is a New Zealand footballer who most recently played as a defender for Finnish Veikkausliiga club Inter Turku. Club career Having started his career in his native New Zealand with both Auckland City and Central United, Boxall relocated to the United States in 2011 to study at the Northwestern University of Illinois. Alex Arthur Rufer (born 12 June 1996) is a New Zealand professional footballer who captains and plays as a defensive midfielder for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League. David Ball (footballer)
David Michael Ball (born 14 December 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League. Began his career at Manchester City, he never made a first-team appearance despite being a star player in the club's Reserve and Academy teams. He started the 2010–11 season on loan at Swindon Town, before he was signed by Peterborough United in January 2011. Peterborough won promotion out of League One via the play-offs in 2011, though Ball returned to the division on loan at Rochdale for the first half of the 2011–12 season.
