2022–23 Washington Capitals Season
The 2022–23 Washington Capitals season was the 49th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974. The Capitals missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2013–14 season (and only the second time since 2006–07), ending their eight-season playoff streak, being eliminated from playoff contention on April 4, 2023, after the Florida Panthers defeated the Buffalo Sabres 2–1. The Capitals ended a streak of 15 consecutive winning seasons, one of twelve NHL teams to ever have a streak that long. Metropolitan Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). It is the only NHL division without a Canadian team, with five of the division's clubs located in either the New York City area or in Pennsylvania and the other three in North Carolina, Ohio and Washington, D.C. 2022–23 Dallas Stars Season
The 2022–23 Dallas Stars season was the 56th season for National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967, and the 30th season since the franchise relocated from Minnesota prior to the start of the 1993–94 NHL season. The first game of the season was played at Bridgestone Arena against the Nashville Predators on October 13, 2022, with the first home game against the Predators at American Airlines Center on October 15. During the off-season, Rick Bowness resigned as head coach of the Stars, and Peter DeBoer was hired to replace him. On April 3, 2023, the Stars clinched a playoff spot after a win over the Nashville Predators. In the playoffs, the Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild in the First Round in six games. The 2022–23 Los Angeles Kings season was the 56th season (55th season of play) for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. This was the first season without longtime winger Dustin Brown on the roster as he announced his retirement on April 28, 2022, following the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. This season was also their last with longtime goaltender and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Quick, who was shockingly traded on March 1, 2023, to the Columbus Blue Jackets; the Blue Jackets traded Quick to the Vegas Golden Knights the following day. The 2022–23 Ottawa Senators season was the 31st season of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Senators improved on their record compared to the previous season, but failed to qualify for the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. The Senators were officially eliminated from the playoffs on April 6, 2023, in the 79th game of the season. Team business The National Capital Commission (NCC) resumed the process to redevelop the LeBreton Flats overall site, reserving the site of an arena and asking for preliminary bids on the arena site separately. After a February 2022 deadline to submit bids, the NCC announced that it had received several bids for the site. Local media speculated that the Senators were actively pursuing a bid, authorized by Eugene Melnyk shortly before his death. Charlie Lindgren
Charlie Lindgren (born December 18, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Lindgren began his junior career with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL in 2012–13. Lindgren played his college hockey at St. Cloud State University from 2013–14 to 2015–16. On March 30, 2016, Lindgren decided to forego his senior year at St. Cloud State and was signed as a free agent by the Montreal Canadiens to a two-year, two way contract. At the tail end of the 2015–16 season, Lindgren played in his first NHL game on April 7, 2016. The Canadiens won the game 4–2 against the Carolina Hurricanes. On November 5, 2017, Lindgren won his first career shutout against the Chicago Blackhawks in a 2–0 win, while making 38 saves. The 2022–23 Boston Bruins season was the Bruins' 99th season as a member of the National Hockey League. On November 25, 2022, the Bruins set a record for most consecutive home wins to start the season with 12 straight with a 3–2 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
