2022–23 Providence Friars Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Providence Friars men's basketball team represented Providence College during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by 12th-year head coach Ed Cooley, and played their home games at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island as a member of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 21–12, 13–7 in Big East play to finish in a tie for fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament to UConn. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 11 seed in the East region. There they lost to Kentucky in the first round. On March 10, 2023, Ed Cooley left the school to take the head coach job at Georgetown. On March 23, the school named George Mason head coach Kim English the team's new head coach. Ed Cooley
Ed Cooley (born September 10, 1969) is an American college basketball coach and the current head coach of the Providence College Friars men's basketball team. Cooley held the same position at Fairfield University from 2006 to 2011. He received the inaugural 2010 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year Award, presented annually to the top minority men's college basketball coach in the nation. Early years Cooley was born on September 10, 1969 in Providence, Rhode Island to Jane Cooley and Edward Smith. He was one of nine children by his mother in a family on welfare, living in the low-income South Providence neighborhood. However, he would later be taken in by neighbors Gloria and Eddie Searight, who provided Cooley with meals and a place to sleep. Aljami Durham (born September 30, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for Hamburg Towers of the Basketball Bundesliga. The 2021–22 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team represented the University of Kansas in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, which was the Jayhawks' 124th basketball season.
