2022–23 Minnesota Wild Season
The 2022–23 Minnesota Wild season was the 23rd season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. On April 3, 2023, the Wild clinched a playoff spot after a shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and after the Dallas Stars defeated the Nashville Predators. The Wild lost their eighth consecutive playoff series on April 28, 2023, after the Stars eliminated them in six games. Central Division (NHL)
The NHL's Central Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. Its predecessor was the Norris Division and its also one of two successors to the Northwest Division. The Chicago Blackhawks have been a member of the Central Division in all of its seasons since the original 1993 realignment. The Arizona Coyotes (as the original Winnipeg Jets), Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues were also original members of the division, but were realigned to a different division for a while before returning; both the Coyotes and Stars were moved to the Pacific Division in 1998 (the Stars moved back to the Central in 2013, and the Coyotes followed in 2021), while the Blues were moved to the West Division during the temporary 2021 realignment. Three of its teams—the Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, and Winnipeg Jets (as the Atlanta Thrashers)—joined the NHL in the league's last expansion phase between 1998 and 2000. The 2022–23 Detroit Red Wings season was the 97th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. It was the Red Wings' sixth season at Little Caesars Arena. This was the Red Wings' first season under new head coach Derek Lalonde. The Red Wings were eliminated from playoff contention for the seventh consecutive season on April 6, 2023, after a 7–6 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres. They would finish the season at 35–37–10. 2022–23 Ottawa Senators Season
The 2022–23 Ottawa Senators season was the 31st season of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Senators improved on their record compared to the previous season, but failed to qualify for the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. The Senators were officially eliminated from the playoffs on April 6, 2023, in the 79th game of the season. Team business The National Capital Commission (NCC) resumed the process to redevelop the LeBreton Flats overall site, reserving the site of an arena and asking for preliminary bids on the arena site separately. After a February 2022 deadline to submit bids, the NCC announced that it had received several bids for the site. Local media speculated that the Senators were actively pursuing a bid, authorized by Eugene Melnyk shortly before his death. 2022–23 Boston Bruins Season
The 2022–23 Boston Bruins season was the Bruins' 99th season as a member of the National Hockey League. On November 25, 2022, the Bruins set a record for most consecutive home wins to start the season with 12 straight with a 3–2 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The streak extended to 14 on December 3. The streak ended three days later after they lost 4–3 to the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout. The 2022–23 Los Angeles Kings season was the 56th season (55th season of play) for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. This was the first season without longtime winger Dustin Brown on the roster as he announced his retirement on April 28, 2022, following the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. This season was also their last with longtime goaltender and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Quick, who was shockingly traded on March 1, 2023, to the Columbus Blue Jackets; the Blue Jackets traded Quick to the Vegas Golden Knights the following day. 2022–23 New York Rangers Season
The 2022–23 New York Rangers season was the franchise's 96th season of play and their 97th season overall. During the off-season, the Rangers named Jacob Trouba the 28th captain in franchise history. Trouba became the first captain since Ryan McDonagh was traded during the 2017–18 season, and is also the 12th defenseman in franchise history to be named captain. He is the fourth consecutive U.S.-born player to be named captain after Chris Drury (2008–2011), Ryan Callahan (2011–2014) and McDonagh (2014–2018).
