2022–23 Carolina Hurricanes Season
The 2022–23 Carolina Hurricanes season was the 44th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established in June 1979, and 25th season since the franchise relocated from the Hartford Whalers to start the 1997–98 NHL season. The Hurricanes qualified for the playoffs on March 23, 2023, after the Florida Panthers lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the playoffs, the Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders in six games in the First Round, followed by a convincing five game series win over the New Jersey Devils in the Second Round before being swept in four games by the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). It is the only NHL division without a Canadian team, with five of the division's clubs located in either the New York metropolitan area, New York City area or in Pennsylvania and the other three in North Carolina, Ohio and Washington, D.C. Frederik Andersen
Frederik "Freddie" Andersen (born 2 October 1989) is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs. Andersen was a member of Denmark's national team that competed at the 2010 IIHF World Championship. He was selected by the Hurricanes in the seventh round, 187th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Unable to come to terms with the Hurricanes, however, Andersen later re-entered the draft and was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, 87th overall, by the Ducks, with whom he spent the first few years of his NHL career. FLA Live Arena (previously known as the National Car Rental Center, Office Depot Center, BankAtlantic Center, and BB&T Center) is an indoor arena located next to Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida. Hurricane Ian was a large and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that was the deadliest hurricane to strike the state of Florida since the 1935 Labor Day hurricane. Ian caused widespread damage across western Cuba and the southeast United States, especially the states of Florida and South Carolina. The 2022–23 Tampa Bay Lightning season was the 31st season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on December 16, 1991. Lane Lambert was promoted to head coach on May 16, 2022, after Barry Trotz was fired at the end of the 2021–22 season. The 2022–23 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the franchise's 106th season in the National Hockey League. On March 27, 2023, the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot after the Ottawa Senators defeated the Florida Panthers. The 2022–23 Florida Panthers season was the 29th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established in 1993. It is the Panthers' 24th season at FLA Live Arena. This is the Panthers' first season under new head coach Paul Maurice. The Panthers qualified for the playoffs after the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins each lost their games on April 11, 2023. After barely clinching a wild card spot in the playoffs, the Panthers were set to face the Boston Bruins, who had set the NHL record for most wins and points in a season. After being down 3–1 in the series, the Panthers came back and won the series in overtime in Game 7 to pull off one of the biggest upsets in NHL history. 1997–98 NHL Season
The 1997–98 NHL season was the 81st regular season of the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup champions were the Detroit Red Wings, who swept the Washington Capitals in four games. Hartford Whalers
The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, the team joined the WHA in the league's inaugural season, and was known as the New England Whalers throughout its time in the WHA.
