2022 Protests In Russian-occupied Ukraine
During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting Russian occupation of multiple Ukrainian towns and cities, numerous cases of non-violent resistance against the occupation took place. Local residents organised protests against the Russian invasion and blocked the movement of Russian military equipment, in response to which the Russian military opened warning shots and, according to locals, killed and wounded several protesters, which may be considered a war crime. ''Human Rights Watch'' reported that citizens, protesters, journalists, activists, volunteers, officials, civil servants, and prisoners of war were tortured in occupied Ukrainian south. Protests against the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine occurred simultaneously in many places worldwide, including in Russia and in Russian-occupied Ukraine. In Russia In the seven days from 24 February to 2 March, over 6,500 people in 53 cities across Russia have been detained by police for protesting against the invasion. Since the start of the war until 6 March nearly 13,000 have been detained. On 24 February, over 60 Russian activists and journalists have been arrested. In violation of the Russian Constitution and international human rights law, Putin has made peaceful public protest without permission of the authorities illegal. The flag of Ukraine ( uk, Прапор України, Prapor Ukrainy) consists of equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. The blue and yellow bicolour first appeared during the 1848 Spring of Nations in Lemberg, then part of the Austrian Empire. It was adopted as a state flag for the first time in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution by the Ukrainian People's Republic, the West Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian State. Berdiansk or Berdyansk ( uk, Бердя́нськ, translit=Berdiansk, ; russian: Бердя́нск, translit=Berdyansk ) is a port city in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast (province) in south-eastern Ukraine.
