2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Men's Pole Vault
The men's pole vault at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships took place on 20 March 2022. Summary Only 8th place Armand Duplantis and 12th place Thiago Braz da Silva returned from 2018. That statement belied their credentials. Braz was the 2016 Olympic Champion. Duplantis was an up and coming 18 year old, who has since won the 2020 Olympics and had set 4 world records in the event. All 13 finalists were still in at 5.60m, which Duplantis used as his opening height. 8 cleared 5.75m while Duplantis passed. At 5.85m, only 4 would clear with Christopher Nilsen and Duplantis remaining clean. Only Nilsen cleared 5.90m, a height that eliminated Valentin Lavillenie, the younger brother of the defending champion Renaud Lavillenie, who had won this championship three times. Renaud Lavillenie ( or ; born 18 September 1986) is a French pole vaulter. Lavillenie won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. In addition to his Olympic success, he has won three World Indoor Championships gold medals (record), three European Championships gold medals and four European Indoor Championships gold medals. He has also won one silver medal and four bronze medals at the World Championships. KC Lightfoot (born November 11, 1999, in Lee's Summit, Missouri), is an American pole vaulter. He holds the American record with a clearance of at the Music City Track Carnival in Nashville on June 2, 2023. Kurtis Marschall (born 25 April 1997) is an Australian pole vaulter, bronze medallist at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Early years Marschall was born on 25 April 1997 in North Adelaide, South Australia. In 2008, as an 11-year-old, Marschall was inspired by Steve Hooker's gold medal win at the Olympic Games in Beijing. A year later he attended a ‘come-and-try' day in Adelaide where he jumped two metres. Marschall started training with Alan Launder and 4 years later was clearing five metres.
