2022 Women's Premier League (Singapore)
The 2022 Women's Premier League (also known as the Deloitte Women's Premier League due to sponsorship reasons with audit firm Deloitte) is the top-flight women's football league in Singapore. The 22nd season commenced on Saturday, 28 May 2022. Deloitte Singapore became the first title sponsor for Singapore's top-flight women's football league since its launch in August 2000. The league returns after a two-year pandemic-enforced absence and will feature seven clubs in its 21st season. All matches will be held at the Yishun Stadium with free admission. The league champions will receive S$25,000, while the second and third placed teams will receive S$10,000 and S$7,500 respectively. Women's Premier League (Singapore)
The Women's Premier League (WPL), currently known as the Deloitte Women's Premier League due to sponsorship reasons with audit firm Deloitte, is the top-flight women's football league in Singapore. It is run by Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and features seven amateur teams. History The WPL started in August 2000 in Singapore. In 2004, in a similar move to S.League, the WPL invited a foreign team to join the league. Guangzhou Sunray Cave from China joined the WPL. In 2019, WPL had 10 teams. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, WPL was suspended since 2019. On 28 May 2022, WPL resumed competition and started the 2022 season. Competition format Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. Tanjong Pagar United Football Club is a professional football club that competes in the Singapore Premier League, the top division of football in Singapore. The club took part in S.League from 1996 to 2004, and from 2011 to 2014. The club withdrew from the league after the 2004 season because of financial problems, but returned in 2011, with several similar breaks meanwhile. The club also has its women's section. Hougang United Football Club is a Singaporean professional football club that competes in the Singapore Premier League. History Hougang United Football Club was founded as Marine Castle United Football Club, which was formed by Newcastle United fans in the Marine Parade area. Upon successful entry into the S.League in 1998, the club struggled in its early foray in the first few years, finishing in the bottom two for the next four seasons. Marine Castle changed its name to Sengkang Marine Football Club in 2002 and finished in 8th position consecutively, its highest ever finish in its short history.
