2022 United States Treasurer Elections
The 2022 United States state treasurer elections were held on November 8, 2022, to elect the state treasurer and equivalents in twenty-seven states, plus a special election in Utah. The previous elections for this group of states took place in 2018. The treasurer of Vermont serves two-year terms and was last elected in 2020. These elections took place concurrently with several other federal, state, and local elections. Partisan composition Going into the election, there were 22 Republican state treasurers and 20 Democratic treasurers. This class of treasurers were made of 14 Democrats and 14 Republicans. Democrats defended two states won by Donald Trump, and Republicans defended one state won by Joe Biden in 2020. Additionally, Democrats held state treasurer offices in three states with Republican governors, while Republicans did not hold any state treasurer offices in states with Democratic governors. State Treasurer
In the state governments of the United States, 48 of the 50 states have the executive position of treasurer. New York abolished the position in 1926; duties were transferred to New York State Comptroller. Texas abolished the position of Texas State Treasurer in 1996, transferring the duties of that office to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The state treasurer serves as the chief custodian of each state's treasury and as the state's head banker. Typically, they receive and deposit state monies, manages investments, and keeps track of budget surpluses and deficits. Colleen Davis
Colleen Davis (; born 1979/1980) is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party serving as the Delaware State Treasurer. As a child, Davis moved from the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland to Sussex County, Delaware, where she grew up. She graduated from Indian River High School in 1998 and attended Philadelphia University on a soccer scholarship. Prior to running for office, she worked as a financial consultant for medical systems. In 2016, she moved to Dagsboro, Delaware with her husband Anthony and their three children. Davis ran for State Treasurer in the 2018 elections and defeated incumbent Republican Ken Simpler. Her victory was a major upset and was one of several losses for prominent Republicans in Delaware. Harry Arora (born December 16, 1969) is an Indian-born American politician who served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from the 151st District, serving from 2020 to 2023. Erick Russell is an American politician from Connecticut. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the Connecticut State Treasurer. He is the first openly gay African American elected to a statewide office in the United States. Early life and career Russell grew up in New Haven, Connecticut, where his parents owned a convenience store and deli. Shawn T. Wooden is an American attorney and politician who served as the state treasurer of Connecticut between January 2019 and January 2023. Wooden previously served as a member of the Hartford City Council. Early life and career Wooden attended Trinity College on a scholarship.
