2022 Richmond Kickers Season
The 2022 Richmond Kickers season was the club's 30th season of existence, their fourth season in USL League One, and their 18th season in the third tier of American soccer. The Kickers were led by third-year head coach, Darren Sawatzky. The USL League One season started on April 2 and concluded on October 15, 2022. The Kickers had their strongest regular season showing since 2013, winning the USL League One regular season title. The Kickers finished the season with 51 total points, five clear of second place, with 14 wins, seven losses, and nine draws. Striker, Emiliano Terzaghi, for the third season, led the Kickers and USL League One in goals with 18 goals. Outside of USL League One, the Kickers participated in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup, and the 2022 USL League One Playoffs, for their first-place finish during the regular season. Richmond Kickers
Richmond Kickers is an American professional soccer club based in Richmond, Virginia. The Kickers compete as a member of USL League One (USL-1). The club was established in 1993, and began play that same year as a United States Interregional Soccer League (now USL League Two) expansion team, which at the time, was the fourth tier of soccer in the United States. The club's majority owner is 22 Holdings, LLC, and its minority owners are Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club and the Ukrop family, a prominent family from the Greater Richmond Region who founded the Ukrop's grocery chain. The company serves as the club's primary uniform sponsor. Darren Sawatzky has been the club's manager since 2019, taking over for the late-David Bulow. The club's Director of Soccer, Leigh Cowlishaw, coached the team from 2000 until 2018, making him one of the longest tenured professional soccer coaches in American soccer history. Ethan Bryant (born August 20, 2001) is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Sporting Kansas City II in MLS Next Pro. Career San Antonio FC Bryant signed his first professional contract with San Antonio FC on February 14, 2018. He made his professional debut on May 23, 2018, starting in a U.S. Open Cup match against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Bryant became San Antonio FC's youngest all-time goalscorer on September 29, 2018, when he scored his first professional goal against Seattle Sounders FC 2. Dakota Barnathan (born November 9, 1994) is an American professional soccer player who currently plays for the Richmond Kickers in USL League One. Career Early career Barnathan played college soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2013 and 2016, spending 2012 redshirted. While at VCU, Barnathan played for USL PDL sides Long Island Rough Riders and Portland Timbers U23s. Professional On January 17, 2017, Barnathan was selected by FC Dallas in the third round of the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft as the 59th overall pick. South Georgia Tormenta FC is an American soccer organization based in Statesboro, Georgia, United States. Founded in 2015, the club fields a professional team in USL League One, the third tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, as well as a pre-professional team in USL League Two called Tormenta FC 2 and a pre-professional team in USL W-League. Vincenzo Marco Antonio Nicola Constantino Candela López (born 28 September 1994) is a Colombian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Boden. The Christian Brothers University Buccaneers and Lady Buccaneers are the official sports teams of Christian Brothers University. Leonardo Baima (born 5 October 1992) is an Argentine professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for the Richmond Kickers in USL League One. Besides Argentina, he has played in Croatia. Career Baima began his footballing career with Boca Juniors. Stuart Ritchie (born September 10, 2001) is an American soccer player who currently plays as a left-back for USL League One side One Knoxville. Career Youth Ritchie joined his local club side Ballistic United aged five-year's old, where he stayed until 2016. Ritchie spent a season with the San Jose Earthquakes academy, before move to Dutch side FC Groningen in January 2018. Stephen Oyebolaji Payne (born June 16, 1997) is an American soccer player who currently plays as a defender for USL League One side Forward Madison FC.
