2022 Republic Of The Congo Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of the Congo in July 2022, with the first round completed on 10 July. A second round was scheduled for 31 July in constituencies where no candidates were elected in the first round. Electoral system Members of the National Assembly are elected in single-member constituencies using the two-round system; if no candidate receives a majority of the votes in the first round, a run-off is held. Results First round It was reported that the ruling Congolese Party of Labour had won 102 of the 142 elected seats in the first round, enough for a supermajority on its own. They also had 14 candidates move on to a run-off. The Pan-African Union for Social Democracy won four seats in the first round, with four candidates moving on to a run-off. Background Following a 2015 referendum on a new constitution, President Denis Sassou Nguesso was re-elected in the March 2016 presidential elections. The Congolese Movement for Democracy and Integral Development (french: Mouvement congolais pour la démocratie et le développement intégral; MCDDI) is a liberal political party in the Republic of the Congo, led by Bernard Kolélas until his death in 2009.
