2022 New Mexico Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Mexico on November 8, 2022. Federal elections U.S. House of Representatives State elections Governor Incumbent governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ran for reelection to a second term. She defeated the Republican candidate, former TV meteorologist Mark Ronchetti, with 52.0% of the vote. New Mexico Public Regulation Commission
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission RCis a regulatory authority in New Mexico charged with the responsibility of seeing that utility customers have "fair and reasonable rates, and to assure reasonable and adequate services to the public as provided by law." The PRC regulates the insurance industry in New Mexico through its Division of Insurance, appointing an Insurance Superintendent who is a PRC employee having independent statutory powers. The PRC also has responsibility for motor carrier regulation, the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Firefighter Training Academy, Pipeline Safety and the registration of all corporations and limited liability companies doing business in New Mexico. Briana H. Zamora (born 1973 or 1974) is an American attorney and judge serving as a justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court since 2021. She is a former judge of the New Mexico Court of Appeals. Early life and education Zamora is a graduate of Cibola High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in government and psychology from New Mexico State University and earned her Juris Doctor with honors from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2000. Judith Nakamura
Judith Nakamura (born November 3, 1960) is an American judge and former chief justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court. She was appointed to the court by Governor Susana Martinez in 2015, and was re-elected in November 2016. Early life Nakamura was born and raised in New Mexico. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in 1983 and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1989. Career After graduating from college, she served as a political director for the Republican Party of New Mexico and as a staffer for U.S. Senator Pete Domenici. The New Mexico Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is established and its powers defined by Article VI of the New Mexico Constitution. Joseph Maestas (born 1960/1961) is an American politician and engineer who is a member of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission. Elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021, succeeding Valerie Espinoza. He announced on July 19, 2021 he is a candidate for New Mexico State Auditor. Early life and education Maestas was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised on a farm in Santa Cruz, New Mexico.
