2022 Iranian Food Protests
In 2022, ongoing protests caused by the murder of Mahsa Amini in Iran escalated into nationwide civil unrest as a result of government price hikes on staple foods including bread and pasta. The protests were part of a 2021–2022 Iranian protests, countrywide wave of protests beginning in July 2021. Protests were initially concentrated in the water-stricken province of Khuzestan province, Khuzestan, but rapidly spread nationwide. During 2022 and 2023 there were food crises in several regions as indicated by rising food prices. In 2022, the world experienced significant food price inflation along with major Food security, food shortages in several regions.
