2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships – Men's K1
The men's kayak event at the 2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place on 30 July 2022 at the Augsburg Eiskanal in Augsburg, with the qualification heats on 28 July 2022. Competition format The event uses a three-round format with qualification heats, semifinal and final. Paddlers complete up to two runs in the heats, with the top ranked athletes starting last. In the first heat, the 30 fastest paddlers qualify automatically for the semifinal, whilst the rest compete in the second heat for additional 10 qualification spots. The final rank of non-qualifying athletes is determined by their second run score. Paddlers start in the reverse order of their heats position in the semifinal and complete a single run, with the top 10 advancing to the final. The start list for the final is once again in reverse order of the semifinal results. The athlete with the best time in the single-run final is awarded gold. Peter Kauzer
Peter Kauzer (born 8 September 1983) is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1999. Career Kauzer has competed at four Summer Olympics. He finished 13th in the K1 event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing after being eliminated in the semi-finals. Four years later at the London games he was one of the top favorites for gold in the K1 event. He made the final after recording the fastest time in the semi-final, but after a disappointing run in the final he could only finish in sixth place. He was also the Slovenian flag-bearer at the London games. He won his first Olympic medal, a silver in the K1 event, at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Noel Hendrick (born 24 December 1997) is an Irish canoeist. He qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Career He is coached by Eoin Rheinisch, a canoeist that Hendrick went to watch compete at the 2012 Olympic Games. Dariusz Bogusław "Darek" Popiela (born 27 July 1985) is a Polish slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1999. He represented Austria until 2002. Career Popiela won five medals in the K1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two silvers (2013, 2018) and three bronzes (2006, 2019, 2023). Joseph Clarke, (born 3 November 1992) is a British slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009, specializing in the K1 (kayak) and KX1 (extreme kayak/kayak cross) events. He is the 2016 Olympic champion in the K1 event, a double World champion in the kayak cross discipline, and has won medals at World and European Championships.
