2022 Czech Municipal Elections
Elections in the Czech Republic, Municipal elections were held in the Czech Republic on 23 and 24 September 2022. Campaign Mayors and Independents (STAN) STAN launched the spring phase of its campaign on 19 April 2022. Party leader VÃt RakuÅ¡an called it a "key election" and the party thus chose a Key as a symbol for the party campaign. RakuÅ¡an stated that the party wants to show smart and inspirative solutions from experience. The party also introduced the "I want to run" ("Chci kandidovat") project, which aims to help people enter politics. Elections In The Czech Republic
All elections in the Czech Republic are based on the principle of universal suffrage. Any adult citizen who is at least 18 years old can vote, except those who have been stripped of their legal capacities by a court, usually on the basis of mental illness. Elected representatives are elected directly by the citizens without any intermediaries. Election laws are not part of the constitution, but – unlike regular laws – they cannot be changed without the consensus of both houses of the Parliament. The Czech Republic uses a two-round plurality voting system for the presidential and Senate elections and an open party-list proportional representation system for all other elections. The proportional representation system uses the D'Hondt method for allocating seats. Elections are usually held over two days, from 14:00 to 22:00 on Friday and then from 8:00 to 14:00 on Saturday. 2022 Ostrava Municipal Election
The 2022 Ostrava municipal election was held on 23 and 24 September 2022 as part of the nationwide municipal elections. ANO 2011 has won the third election in row. Background Previous election was held in 2018. ANO 2011 won the election with Tomáš Macura being reelected as the Mayor. ANO formed coalition with ODS, KDU-ČSL and Pirates. Macura decided to run for reelection in 2022. ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 decided to run under Spolu alliance banner with Jan Dohnal as electoral leader. Ostravak is once again led by Lukáš Semerák. 2022 Plzeň Municipal Election
The 2022 Plzeň municipal election was held on 23 and 24 September 2022 as part of the nationwide municipal elections. The result was a narrow victory for Spolu which received highest number of votes but was tied with ANO 2011 by number of seats. After the election ANO 2011 formed coalition with Czech Pirate Party and Mayors and Independents with Roman Zarzycký as the new Mayor. New coalition was to be supported by 2 SPD members of the assembly but after disagreement of Piráti and STAN leadership they were replaced by PRO Plzeň. Background Previous election was held in 2018. ANO 2011 has won the popular vote but tied with the Civic Democratic Party by number of seats. The 2022 Prague municipal election was held in September 2022 as part of the 2022 Czech municipal elections, nationwide municipal elections to elect members of the Prague City Assembly. It was a victory for Spolu (Czech Republic), Spolu which received the highest number of votes and seats ahead of ANO 2011 in second place. The Czech Pirate Party led by incumbent Mayor Zdeněk Hřib finished third. New coalition was formed 5 months after election and it consists of Spolu, Pirates and STAN. Bohuslav Svoboda became the new mayor. The 2022 Brno municipal election was held on 23 and 24 September 2022 as part of the 2022 Czech municipal elections, nationwide municipal elections. Coalition of Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic), Civic Democratic Party and TOP 09 led by incumbent Mayor Markéta Vaňková has won the election. Following election Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic), ODS and TOP 09 formed wide coalition with ANO 2011, KDU-ÄŒSL, Mayors and Independents, STAN, Czech Pirate Party, Pirates and Czech Social Democratic Party, ÄŒSSD. Independent Politician
An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. The Green Party ( cs, Strana zelených, lit=Party of Greens) is a green political party in the Czech Republic. History The Green party was founded in 1990 following the return to liberal democracy in Czechia following the Velvet Revolution. However, the party remained on the political margins until JaromÃr Å tÄ›tina was able to capture a seat in the Senate (upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic) in 2004. It was during this time that the Greens campaigned on pacificism (rejecting the idea that any foreign military power should have military bases in the Czech Republic) and greater incorporation of grassroots democracy in the country. SNK European Democrats
The SNK European Democrats ( cs, SNK Evropštà demokraté) is a political party in the Czech Republic, led by Zdeňka Marková. The first regular chairperson of this party was Jana Hybášková. The party was created in January 2006 by the merger of two Czech political parties – SNK Union of Independents ( cs, SNK sdruženà nezávislých), led by the former Foreign Minister Josef Zieleniec, and the European Democrats ( cs, Evropštà demokraté), led by Jan Kasl, the former Mayor of the City of Prague. TOP 09 (name derived from cs, Tradice Odpovědnost Prosperita, lit=Tradition Responsibility Prosperity) is a liberal-conservative political party in the Czech Republic, led by Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
