2022 British Columbia New Democratic Party Leadership Election
In 2022, the British Columbia New Democratic Party (NDP) held a leadership election to select a new leader. The contest was prompted by John Horgan's announcement in June 2022 that he would step down as leader of the party once a new leader had been chosen. As the NDP has formed the government of the province since 2017, newly elected leader David Eby was subsequently sworn in as premier of British Columbia. The convention was scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of 2022. Two candidates were in the contest: David Eby and Anjali Appadurai. On October 20, 2022, Appadurai was disqualified after campaign violations. As Eby was the sole remaining candidate in the contest, he was acclaimed leader on October 21. 2014 British Columbia New Democratic Party Leadership Election
The 2014 British Columbia New Democratic Party leadership election was to be held from September 24 to 27 with the results announced on September 28; however, as John Horgan was the only candidate to be officially nominated by the deadline of May 1, 2014, at 5pm, he was acclaimed leader. The election was called following Adrian Dix's resignation announcement on September 18, 2013, several months after the party's unexpected defeat in the 2013 election after pre-campaign polls had shown the NDP ahead by as much as 20 points. The party set the entrance fee for candidates at $25,000 and a spending maximum of $350,000. The leadership vote was to be conducted by preferential ballot cast via internet and telephone with all party members being eligible to vote. 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference
The 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP17) was held in Durban, South Africa, from 28 November to 11 December 2011 to establish a new treaty to limit carbon emissions. A treaty was not established, but the conference agreed to establish a legally binding deal comprising all countries by 2015, which was to take effect in 2020. There was also progress regarding the creation of a Green Climate Fund for which a management framework was adopted. Strata title is a form of ownership and housing tenure devised for multi-level apartment blocks and horizontal subdivisions with shared areas. The word "strata" refers to apartments being on different levels.
