2022 Belgrade City Assembly Election
Local elections were held in Belgrade on 3 April 2022 to elect members of the City Assembly. Alongside the election, national-level general elections and local elections in 12 other towns and municipalities were held on the same day. The elections are likely to be repeated in either December 2022 or March 2023, considering the government coalition has a tight majority, receiving less votes than the opposition parties. Background Following the vote of no confidence in 2013, Dragan Đilas was dismissed as mayor, and a temporary body was set up by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), who has ruled Belgrade since then. The current session of the City Assembly was elected in 2018, after SNS, Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and United Serbia (JS) formed a majority. Serbian Progressive Party
The Serbian Progressive Party ( sr-cyrl, Српска напредна странка, Srpska napredna stranka, SNS) has been the ruling political party of Serbia since 2012. Founded by Tomislav Nikolić and Aleksandar Vučić in 2008 as a split from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the SNS served in opposition to the Democratic Party (DS) for the next several years. Running on an anti-corruption platform, it managed a strong performance in the 2009 Belgrade local elections, and in the same year, became the strongest opposition party. New Belgrade
New Belgrade ( sr, / , ) is a municipality of the city of Belgrade. It is a planned city, built since 1948 in a previously uninhabited area on the left bank of the Sava river, opposite old Belgrade. In recent years, it has become the central business district of Belgrade and its fastest developing area, with many businesses moving to the new part of the city, due to more modern infrastructure and larger available space. Serbia's capital city of Belgrade is divided into 17 municipalities. Most of the municipalities are situated on the southern side of the Danube and Sava rivers, in the Šumadija region. Boško Obradović
Boško Obradović (; ; born 23 August 1976) is a Serbian politician who is the founder and leader of the right-wing political party Dveri. He was the party's nominee for the 2017 and 2022 presidential elections. Early life Obradović was born on 23 August 1976 in Vranići, Čačak, SFR Yugoslavia. He studied philology in the University of Belgrade, where he graduated in 2002 after writing his thesis titled ''"Miloš Crnjanski and the New Nationalism"''. Zoran Lutovac ( sr-cyr, Зоран Лутовац; born 7 August 1964) is Serbian politician and former diplomat who has been the president of the Democratic Party since 2018. The Alliance for Serbia ( sr, Савез за Србију, Savez za Srbiju) was a major extra-parliamentary catch-all opposition alliance of political parties in Serbia that was founded in September 2018. Goran Vesić (; born 18 February 1969) is a Serbian politician serving as minister of construction, transport and infrastructure since 2022. A member of the Serbian Progressive Party, he has been serving as a member of the National Assembly of Serbia since 1 August 2022, while he previously served as the deputy mayor of Belgrade from 2018 to 2022.
