2022 Argyll And Bute Council Election
Elections to Argyll and Bute Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other 2022 Scottish local elections, Scottish local government elections. The election will use the 11 wards created under the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with 36 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the Single transferable vote, STV electoral system. New ward boundaries were proposed by Boundaries Scotland in 2021 which would have reduced the total number of councillors to 34, however these were rejected by the Scottish Parliament. At the previous election in 2017 Argyll and Bute Council election, 2017, the Scottish National Party (SNP) won the most seats, however a coalition of Scottish Conservatives, Conservatives, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Liberal Democrats and independents, referred to as The Argyll, Lomond and the Isles Group (TALIG) ran the council. Roddy McCuish
Roderick William "Roddy" McCuish is a Scottish politician who was an independent member of the Argyll and Bute Council, having formerly been the leader twice, both with the Scottish National Party (SNP) and later as an independent. On 8 January 2021, it was announced that he had joined the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP), becoming their first representative holding political office until the 2022 Council election, when he did not seek re-election. Political career McCuish first stood for election for the Oban South and the Isles ward in the 2007 Scottish Local Elections, polling 955 first preferences and topping the polling in the ward and taking the first seat out of four. North Ayrshire ( gd, Siorrachd Àir a Tuath, ) is one of 32 council areas in Scotland.
