2022 AFC Champions League Qualifying Play-offs
The 2022 AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs were played from 8 to 15 March 2022. A total of 16 teams competed in the qualifying play-offs to decide seven of the 40 places in the 2022 AFC Champions League group stage, group stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League. Teams The following 14 teams, split into two regions (West Region and East Region), entered the qualifying play-offs, consisting of two rounds: *2 teams entered in the preliminary round. *12 teams entered in the play-off round. Format In the qualifying play-offs, each tie was played as a single match. Overtime (sports)#association football, Extra time and penalty shoot-out (association football), penalty shoot-out were used to decide the winner if necessary. 2022 AFC Champions League Group Stage
The 2022 AFC Champions League group stage was played from 15 April to 1 May 2022 for the East Region and from 7 to 27 April 2022 for the West Region. A total of 40 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League. Draw The draw for the group stage was held on 17 January 2022 at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 40 teams were drawn into ten groups of four: five groups each in the West Region (Groups A–E) and the East Region (Groups F–J). For each region, teams were seeded into four pots and drawn into the relevant positions within each group, based on their association ranking and their seeding within their association, in consideration of technical balance between groups. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper.
