The 2021–22 season was Wigan Athletic's 90th year in their history and second consecutive season in League One. Wigan Athletic Football Club () is an English professional association football club based in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. The team competes in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Founded in 1932, they have played at the 25,138-seat DW Stadium since 1999, before which they played at Springfield Park. Their colours are blue and white stripes, although all-blue shirts have been common throughout the club's history. The club regards Bolton Wanderers as its primary derby rival. Wigan competed in the Cheshire County League for the first nine seasons of the club's existence, winning three league titles before being placed in the Lancashire Combination in 1947. Jason Kerr (footballer)
Jason John Kerr (born 6 February 1997) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Wigan Athletic. Career Kerr started his career at St Johnstone in 2014, spending two seasons on loan at East Fife from 2015 to 2017, winning the Scottish League Two title in the 2015–16 season. On 10 August 2017, Kerr, along with St Johnstone team-mate Chris Kane, joined Scottish Championship club Queen of the South on loan until 31 January 2018. On 21 October, Kerr scored the only goal at Glebe Park, Brechin in ''Queens'' 1–0 win over Brechin City and was subsequently sent-off in injury time with Ally Love of ''The City''. Jack David Vincent Whatmough (born 19 August 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays for Preston North End as a centre-back. Club career Portsmouth Whatmough was born in Gosport and played for Southampton. At the age of 13 he decided to leave Southampton F.C. He then trained with Portsmouth and joined Academy. Tom Mark Pearce (born 12 April 1998) is an English footballer who plays as a left-back for EFL League One club Wigan Athletic. Club career Leeds United Pearce started his career at Everton youth academy before joining Leeds United's academy in 2014. He rose up through the ranks of the Leeds youth academy. Kelland John William James Watts (born 3 November 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for EFL League One club Wigan Athletic, on loan from Premier League club Newcastle United. A product of the Newcastle United academy, Watts signed his first professional contract with the club in the summer of 2018. Samuel Lloyd Tickle (born 31 March 2002) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic. Club career Tickle is a youth product of Wigan Athletic, having joined their youth academy in 2012. He was released at the end of the 2018 season.
