2021–22 Virginia Tech Hokies Women's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Virginia Tech Hokies women's basketball team represented Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Hokies, were led by sixth year head coach Kenny Brooks, and played their home games at Cassell Coliseum as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hokies finished the season 23–10 overall and 13–5 in ACC play to finish in a three way tie for third place. As the fifth seed in the ACC tournament, they defeated thirteenth seed Clemson in the Second Round and fourth seed North Carolina in the Quarterfinals before losing to eventual champions and first seed NC State in the Semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they were the fifth seed in the Spokane Region. They lost to twelfth seed Florida Gulf Coast in the First Round to end their season. Kenny Brooks
Kenny Brooks (born December 20, 1968) is the current head coach of the Virginia Tech women's basketball team. Career Brooks played his collegiate basketball for the James Madison Dukes basketball program. During the 2013–2014 season the James Madison University women's basketball team upset the 6 seed Gonzaga in the NCAA tournament. It was JMU's first NCAA tournament victory since 1991. The 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 39th edition of the tournament began on March 21, 2021, in sites around San Antonio, Texas, and concluded with the championship game on April 4 at the Alamodome, with the Stanford Cardinal defeating the Arizona Wildcats 54–53 to win their third NCAA title. Due to logistical considerations surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (which resulted in the cancellation of the 2020 tournament), and mirroring a similar decision by the men's tournament, the entire tournament was played in the San Antonio area rather than at sites across the country, with some first and second round games played in nearby San Marcos and Austin.
