2021–22 UNC Greensboro Spartans Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 UNC Greensboro Spartans men's basketball team represented the University of North Carolina at Greensboro during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by first-year head coach Mike Jones, played their home games at the Greensboro Coliseum and Fleming Gymnasium in Greensboro, North Carolina as members of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They finished the season 17–14, 9–9 in SoCon play to finish in a tie for fifth place. As the No. 6 seed in the SoCon tournament, they lost to Samford in the quarterfinals. Guard De'Monte Buckingham was named to the Southern Conference Sports Media Association third team. They accepted an invitation to play in the 2022 College Basketball Invitational tournament where, as a No. 7 seed, they lost to No. 10-seeded Boston University in the first round. Mike Jones (basketball, Born 1965)
Michael Ray Jones (born April 30, 1965) is a current college basketball head coach. Jones’ father, Jimmy, was a star guard in the ABA from 1967-74. In 1974, Jimmy Jones signed with the Washington Bullets in the NBA, where he remained until 1977. Mike Jones spent 10 years as head men's basketball coach at Radford. During his time there, he was named Big South Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2020. While at Radford, Jones coached Javonte Green, Radford's first NBA Player. Green, who went undrafted in 2015, made his NBA debut with the Boston Celtics in 2019 and currently plays for the Chicago Bulls. Angelo Allegri
Angelo Allegri (born April 28, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for Telekom Baskets Bonn of the Basketball Bundesliga. He played college basketball for the UNC Greensboro Spartans and Eastern Washington Eagles. High school career Allegri was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He originally attended Center High School. He later transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas ahead of his Junior year, and spent a postgraduate year at Link Year Prep in Branson, Missouri. College career Allegri began his collegiate career with the UNC Greensboro Spartans where he averaged 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds during his three seasons with the team. After the departure of Spartans head coach Wes Miller, Allegri transferred to the Eastern Washington Eagles in 2021.
