2021–22 Portland State Vikings Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Portland State Vikings men's basketball team represented Portland State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Vikings, led by first-year head coach Jase Coburn, played their home games at Viking Pavilion in Portland, Oregon as members of the Big Sky Conference. Previous season The Vikings finished the 2020–21 season 9–13, 6–8 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They lost to Northern Arizona in the first round of the Big Sky tournament. On April 6, 2021, head coach Barret Peery left the team to take the associate head coaching position at Texas Tech. On April 16, after being named interim head coach following Peery's departure, associate head coach Jase Coburn was named the permanent head coach. Jase Coburn
Jase Coburn (born September 16, 1983) is an American basketball coach who is currently the head coach at Portland State University. He was promoted in 2021 after eight seasons as an assistant with the program, and was a coach at the high school and junior college ranks before joining Portland State. Coaching career Coburn got his start coaching at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe as an assistant before moving on to Phoenix Junior College as an assistant. He was named the head coach at McClintock High School in Tempe at the age of 23 in 2007 and led them to a state championship by the time he was 26. He was also an assistant at Howard Junior College in Texas before joining Portland State. Portland State Coburn was hired as an assistant coach at Portland State in 2013. He was elevated to associate head coach before the 2018 season. Tualatin, Oregon
Tualatin () is a city located primarily in Washington County in the U.S. state of Oregon. A small portion of the city is also located in neighboring Clackamas County. It is a southwestern suburb in the Portland Metropolitan Area that is located south of Tigard. The population was 26,054 at the 2010 census. Long Beach State Beach Men's Basketball
The Long Beach State Beach men's basketball team represents California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, California. The school's team competes in the Big West Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2012. The Beach are currently coached by Dan Monson. Long Beach State officially changed their nickname with the NCAA to "Beach" from "49ers" prior to the 2019–20 season. In the 2006–07 season, the 49ers finished with a 24–8 (12–2) record, the Big West conference championship, and the school's first trip to the NCAA tournament in 12 years.
