2021 World Para Athletics European Championships
The 2021 World Para Athletics European Championships was a track and field competition for athletes with a disability open to International Paralympic Committee (IPC) affiliated countries within Europe and a refugee team with one athlete. This was the 7th edition of the event. This was also the first time that the event was held in Poland. Around 670 athletes competed at the event. History The event was originally scheduled to be held between 3 and 7 June 2020. On 26 March 2020, it was announced that the event would be postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in June it was confirmed that the postponement would be until 2021. T38 (classification)
T38 and CP8 are disability sport classification for disability athletics intended for people with cerebral palsy. It includes people who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. Runners in this class may appear to have a slight limp when they are running but otherwise have a stride similar to able-bodied runners. Events for this class include 100 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters, and the long jump. Sport This classification is for disability athletics. This classification is one of seven classifications for athletes with cerebral palsy. Similar classifications are T32, T33, T34, T35, T36, T37 and T38. The T35 to T38 classes are classes for ambulant sportspeople. The Australian Paralympic Committee defines this classification as being for "Minimal hemiplegia, ataxia, diplegia or athetosis. Fleur Jong
Fleur Jong (; born 17 December 1995) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete. She won the gold medal in the women's long jump T64 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She also set a new world record of 6.16 metres. , her current world record in this event is 6.74 metres. Jong is a gold medalist in the women's 100 metres T64 and women's long jump T64 events at the World Para Athletics Championships and the World Para Athletics European Championships. Desirée Vila Bargiela
Desirée Vila Bargiela (born 15 June 1998) is a Paralympic athlete and former acrobatic gymnast who competes in international level events. Sport accident On 26 February 2015, Vila was doing gymnastics practice at the 2015 European Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships and broke her right tibia and fibula and compressing her popliteal artery, which resulted in her right leg being amputated above the knee and was forced to quit the sport after only being a professional acrobatic gymnast for three years prior to her injury. Her family filed a lawsuit for medical negligence against the doctor and the hospital where Vila was treated, the doctor was sentenced to two years in prison and received a four-year suspension, the family were given a €2 million compensation. However, in 2019, the doctor's jail sentence and suspension were revoked and the compensation was reduced. Martina Caironi (born 13 September 1989) is an Italian Paralympic athlete. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and 2016 Summer Paralympics. She won a gold medal in the 100 m sprint in 2012 and a silver in the long jump in 2016. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Polly Maton (born 23 October 1999) is a British para sprinter and long jumper. Maton was born without her right arm, runs with a prosthetic arm and competes in the T47 category. She won her first gold medals at the IWAS Junior Championships at the age of 14. Nikol Rodomakina (Russian: Николь Родомакина, born 14 February 1993) is a Paralympic athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T46 sprint and F46 long jump events. Between 2011 and 2013 Rodomakina was World, Paralympic and European champion in the F46 long jump. Career history Rodomakina competed in her first Summer Paralympics at the 2008 Games in Beijing, China. She entered both the women's 100 metres and 200 metres sprints in the T46 classification. She qualified for the finals for both events, but failed to medal in either finishing 5th in the 100m and 7th in the 200m. T47 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics primarily for competitors with a below elbow or wrist amputation or impairment. T47 is a classification for track events but unlike the other T40 to T46 classifications it has no equivalent F47 classification for field events. The amputee sports equivalent class is ISOD the A8 class. People in this class can have injuries as a result of over use of their remaining upper limb.
