United Women's Soccer
United Women's Soccer (UWS, also commonly abbreviated UWS) is a second-division pro-am women's soccer league in the United States. The league was founded in 2015 as a response to the dual problems of disorganization in the WPSL and of the folding of the original USL W-League. The league began play in May 2016 with eleven teams in two conferences. The first league currently has 45 teams in 6 conferences and second league currently has 49 teams in 6 conferences. History Background In the summer of 2015, disorganization and the inability to field teams led to many last-minute changes in the WPSL playoffs. This, combined with a general lack of competitiveness due to rapid expansion, led to frustration from many long-time WPSL teams. FC Buffalo (UWS)
FC Buffalo is an American women's soccer club based in Buffalo, New York, United States. Founded in 2021, the team plays in United Women's Soccer (UWS), a pro-am league at the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the East Conference. FC Buffalo is the sister club of NPSL club FC Buffalo. The team plays its home games at Dobson Field on the campus of D'Youville University in the Front Park neighborhood of Buffalo. The team's colors are blue, gold and white. History In 2021, club owner Nicholas Mendola announced the launch of a women's soccer team, which started play in May. St. Albert Soccer Association Impact FC is a Canadian women's soccer team based in St. Albert, Alberta that plays in United Women's Soccer. History The St. Albert Soccer Association was founded in 1999 as a youth soccer club. The club is one of seven Alberta clubs to be a Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) National Youth License Member. In 2021, the club joined the US-based pro-am United Women's Soccer as an expansion franchise, becoming the league's second Canadian club after Calgary Foothills WFC. The team's budget is $100,000-$150,000 depending on travel. Their initial season was in jeopardy, after missing the deadline to be approved by the Canadian Soccer Association to apply for cross-border play, but after being given a 24 hour extension, they were able to complete their registration. Calgary Foothills WFC is a Canadian soccer club based in Calgary, Alberta that currently plays in United Women's Soccer. The club was founded as a youth club in 1972 and in 2017 as a UWS franchise. The team is the women's team of Calgary Foothills FC. History The Calgary Foothills Soccer Club was founded in 1972 as a youth soccer club. In 2014, the club formed a men's semi-pro side to play in the US-based Premier Development League to begin play in 2015. In 2015, the club formed a women's side, playing an season of exhibition matches in 2015, with the aim to compete in the USL W-League beginning in 2016. FC Austin Elite is an American women's soccer team, founded in 2015. The team folded in 2022 after United Women's Soccer placed sanctions on the team based on allegations of misconduct. Lansing United is an American amateur soccer club based in East Lansing, Michigan. The club began its inaugural season in United Women's Soccer in Spring 2018. United also fielded a men's team in the National Premier Soccer League and the Premier Development League from 2014 to 2018. New Jersey Copa FC are an American pro-am soccer club fielded by the soccer/football academy FC Copa Academy from Metuchen, New Jersey. New England Mutiny
New England Mutiny is an American women's soccer club, which competes at the pro-am level of women's soccer in the US, in the United Women's Soccer league. The club plays its home games at Lusitano Stadium. Team history Established in 1999 as Springfield Sirens, the club played in the amateur W-League. After winning the W-2 (second division) championship in 2000, the club played one more season in the W-League, then a season as an exhibition team before changing the team name to the New England Mutiny and accepting promotion to WPSL as one of the founding members of the East Division. Long Island Rough Riders (UWS)
The Long Island Rough Riders, formerly known as the Long Island Lady Riders, is an American women's soccer team, based out of Long Island, New York. Founded in 1994, the team was under the ownership of Chuck Jacob, who at the time also owned the men's Long Island Rough Riders up until 1997 before selling it to Frank Boulton. At this time, the Rough Riders transitioned names and became known as the Lady Riders for several years. In 2007, the Rough Riders acquired territorial and franchise rights to the women's Lady Riders team. For the first time since 1997, the men's and women's teams would be under the same name and they have been ever since. Lancaster Inferno is a top level amateur women's soccer club based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2008, the club fields a first team that plays in United Women's Soccer (UWS), a national pro-am league at the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, and a U23 team that competes in UWS League Two. Saint Louis FC U23 were an American soccer team based in Fenton, Missouri, United States. Founded in 2006, the team played in the Premier Development League (PDL), now USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Heartland Division of the Central Conference. Santa Clarita Blue Heat is an American women's soccer team, founded in 2008. The club was known as the Ventura County Fusion for its first two years of existence.
