2021 North Carolina Tar Heels Baseball Team
The 2021 North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team represented University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill during the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Tar Heels played their home games at Boshamer Stadium as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by head coach Scott Forbes, in his first season at North Carolina. Previous season The 2020 North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team notched a 12–7 (0–3) regular season record. The season prematurely ended on March 12, 2020, due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Scott Forbes (baseball)
Scott Forbes is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current head baseball coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. He played college baseball at Middle Georgia College transferring in 1994 to North Carolina Wesleyan College where he played for head coach Mike Fox from 1995–1997. Coaching career In 1999, Forbes followed his head coach at NC Wesleyan, Mike Fox, to Fox's alma mater, North Carolina, to become an assistant coach. Forbes then became an assistant coach for the Winthrop Eagles on August 27, 2002. He returned to Chapel Hill in 2006, and remained an assistant under Fox for the next 14 years. On August 7, 2020, Fox retired as the head baseball coach of the Tar Heels, and Forbes was named his successor. Forbes' tenure as the Tar Heel head coach got off to a hot start, going 6–0 before suffering their first loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on February 28, 2021. Boshamer Stadium
Cary C. Boshamer Stadium is a baseball stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is the home of the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team. History The previous home of the Tar Heels was a multi-use venue called Emerson Field, which sat some 2,400 people. The combination baseball/football field was opened in 1916 on the site of the existing athletic field (ca. 1900) and named for a university benefactor, Captain Isaac E. Emerson, best known as the inventor of Bromo-Seltzer. The football team left Emerson for Kenan Memorial Stadium in 1927. Emerson would continue as the home of the baseball team for another 45 seasons. Its site is now occupied by Davis Library. Boshamer Stadium first opened on March 21, 1972, near the tail end of the 1972 season. It is named for Cary C. Boshamer (class of 1917), a textile industrialist from Gastonia whose donation made the new stadium possible. 2021 NCAA Division I Baseball Season
The 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 19, 2021. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2021 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 30, 2021. The Mississippi State Bulldogs won the tournament, and were consequently named national champions. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the season was delayed one week, and some teams opted out of playing at all for the 2021 season. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference located in the eastern United States.
