2021 Michigan Senate Special Election
Two special elections for the Michigan Senate were held in the U.S. state of Michigan on November 2, 2021, in addition to various other local elections and ballot measures. State elections Legislative State Senate 8th district special election Incumbent Republican Peter Lucido resigned on December 31, 2020 to become prosecutor of Macomb County, Michigan after winning election in 2020. Douglas C. Wozniak, a State Representative, won the Republican primary, while Martin Robert Genter, a United Nations Foundation volunteer and political consultant, won the Democratic primary. Michigan Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. Republicans hold the majority in the State Senate with twenty-two seats; Democrats hold the minority with sixteen seats. 2021 United States State Legislative Elections
The 2021 United States state legislative elections were held on November 2, 2021. Three legislative chambers in two states, New Jersey and Virginia, held regularly-scheduled elections. These off-year elections coincided with other state and local elections, including gubernatorial elections in both states. Kent County, Michigan
Kent County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan.
