2021 Kashima Antlers Season
The 2021 season was Kashima Antlers' 29th consecutive season in the J1 League, the top flight of Japanese football since the introduction of professional football in 1993. The club finished the 2021 J1 League in fourth place, one place above their position from the previous season. They also competed in the Emperor's Cup and J.League Cup and reached the quarter-finals of both competitions. After a poor start to the season losing four of their first six league games, manager Antônio Carlos Zago was dismissed in April 2021 and was replaced by Naoki Soma as interim manager who would take control until the end of the season. Antônio Carlos Zago (born 18 May 1969), sometimes known as just Antônio Carlos or simply Zago, is a Brazilian professional football manager and former player. Club career Early career Born in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, also having Italian origins, Zago moved to Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul as a teenager, and began his senior career with local side Ubiratan, as a forward and being known as Tonhão. is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a centre back for club Kashima Antlers. Youth career Born in Tokyo, Sekigawa started playing football when he was three years old. He joined his first club, FC Tama Junior Youth, whilst he was in elementary school. Katsuya Nagato
is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a left back for Yokohama F. Marinos in the J1 League. Youth career Starting out as a forward for his elementary school, Nagato was advised by his junior high school manager to convert to a left-back – the position he still currently plays. He went on to study at the same school as his older brother, Yachiyo High School.
