2021 Iowa State Cyclones Football Team
The 2021 Iowa State Cyclones football team represented Iowa State University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Cyclones played their home games at the Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, and competed in the Big 12 Conference. The team was coached by sixth-year head coach Matt Campbell, who received an extension the previous offseason. Iowa State began the season ranked seventh in the AP Poll, the highest preseason ranking ever achieved by the Cyclones. Previous season The Cyclones finished the 2020 regular season 9–3 and 8–1 in Big 12 play to finish first in the conference. They appeared in the 2020 Big 12 Championship Game for the first time in program history, where they lost to Oklahoma by six points. Matt Campbell (American Football Coach)
Matthew Allen Campbell (born November 29, 1979) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach at Iowa State University, a position he has held since the 2016 season. Campbell was head football coach at the University of Toledo from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, Campbell had been an assistant at Toledo, Bowling Green, and Mount Union. Campbell grew up in Ohio and briefly attended the University of Pittsburgh before transferring to Mount Union, where he played defensive line. Playing career Campbell was born in Massillon, Ohio. His father Rick coached football at Jackson High School. Matt played football at rival Perry, which won three conference championships while he was on the team. Tyson Veidt
Tyson Veidt is an American football coach and former player. He is the associate head and linebackers coach at Iowa State University. Veidt served as the head football coach at Bluffton from 208 to 2013, compiling a record of 36-70. He was previously an assistant coach at Toledo for two seasons under Matt Campbell. Playing career A native of Logan, Ohio, Veidt graduated from Logan High School in 1992 and earned a bachelor's degree in pre-physical therapy from Muskingum College in 1996. Iowa–Iowa State Football Rivalry
The Iowa–Iowa State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry game between the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes. The Cy-Hawk Trophy is awarded to the winner of the game. It is named after the teams' mascots, Cy the Cardinal and Herky the Hawk. Conceived and created as a traveling trophy by the Greater Des Moines Athletic Club in 1976, the trophy was first presented to the winner by Iowa Governor Robert D. Ray in 1977. The 2021 Iowa Hawkeyes football team represented the University of Iowa during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Deon Broomfield (born August 3, 1991) is a former American football safety and is currently a Safeties coach for Iowa State. He played college football at Iowa State. High school Broomfield attended Bayside High School in Palm Bay, Florida. As a sophomore, Broomfield helped the Bayside Bears to a 7–3 record and a trip to the playoffs. That year, he was named to the second-team all-district. As a junior, Broomfield recorded 85 tackles, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries, making the Class 5A second-team all-state. In his senior season, Deon had nine interceptions, caused six fumbles (of which he recovered three), and led his team to the second round of the playoffs, finishing the season at 8–4.
