Dana Holgorsen
Dana Carl Holgorsen (born June 21, 1971) is the head football coach at the University of Houston. He was the head coach at West Virginia University from 2011 to 2018. During his coaching career he has served under coaches such as Hal Mumme, Mike Leach, Kevin Sumlin, and Mike Gundy. Coaching career Early career Holgorsen spent time at Valdosta State (1993–95) as the quarterbacks, receivers and special teams coach under head coach Hal Mumme, at Mississippi College (1996–98) as the quarterbacks, receivers and special teams coach and at Wingate (1999) as the quarterbacks and receivers coach. Texas Tech Holgorsen was a member of the coaching staff at Texas Tech from 2000–07, serving as the inside receivers coach from 2000–04, before being elevated to co-offensive coordinator alongside Sonny Dykes from 2005–06 and offensive coordinator in 2007. Houston–Tulsa Football Rivalry
The Houston–Tulsa football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between Houston and Tulsa. Series history Since 2014, both schools have been members of the American Athletic Conference. They previously competed together in Conference USA from 2005–12 and the Missouri Valley Conference from 1951–59, as well as playing regularly while Houston was independent (1960–75). The rivalry was particularly heated during the Conference USA period, when the two teams dominated the C-USA West Division. Tulsa won the division title in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2012, while Houston won in 2006, 2009, and 2011. SMU in 2010 was the only other team to win the title during this period. Houston–Rice Rivalry
The Houston–Rice rivalry is a crosstown college rivalry between the Houston Cougars of the University of Houston and Rice Owls of Rice University. The universities are located approximately five miles from one another. It is one of the few NCAA Division I crosstown rivalries, especially between institutions that field Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The rivalry existed in a more official capacity after Houston joined the now-defunct Southwest Conference in 1971, in which Rice was a charter member. Since the breakup of that conference in 1995, the rivalry has continued. In 2005, Rice joined Conference USA, of which Houston was a member, and again made the rivalry more relevant for conference titles as well. Rice Stadium is an American football stadium located on the Rice University campus in Houston, Texas. It has been the home of the Rice Owls football team since its completion in 1950, and hosted John F. Kennedy's "We choose to go to the Moon" speech in 1962 and Super Bowl VIII in early 1974. Architecturally, Rice Stadium is an example of modern architecture, with simple lines and an unadorned, functional design. The lower seating bowl is located below the surrounding ground level. Built solely for football, the stadium has excellent sightlines from almost every seat. To achieve this, the running track was eliminated so that spectators were closer to the action and each side of the upper decks was brought in at a concave angle to provide better sightlines. It is still recognized in many circles as the best stadium in Texas for watching a football game.
