2021 Graz Local Election
The 2021 Graz local election was held on 26 September 2021 to elect the members of the Gemeinderat of Graz. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) became the largest party for the first time in the city's history, winning 29% of votes cast. The previous governing party, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), fell from 38% to second place with 26%. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) also suffered losses and finished in fourth place on 11%, while The Greens – The Green Alternative, The Greens moved into third with 17%. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) recorded a slight decline to 9.5%. NEOS – The New Austria and Liberal Forum, NEOS – The New Austria won 5.4% and gained a second seat. Siegfried Nagl, ÖVP mayor of Graz since 2003, announced that he would resign in light of his party's poor result. Elke Kahr
Elke Kahr (born 2 November 1961) is an Austrian politician of the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) who has served as Mayor of Graz, the second-largest city in Austria, since 2021. She was previously a city councillor in the municipal government since 2005. Between June 2016 and April 2017, she served as vice mayor of the city. Early and personal life Kahr was born in Graz in 1961. Her biological father was a student from Iran. She was adopted at three years of age and grew up in a working-class district. After finishing elementary and secondary school, she attended the commercial school in Grazbachgasse. After working at the Oesterreichische Kontrollbank, she attended the evening business academy, which she graduated in 1984 with the Matura. Open List
Open list describes any variant of party-list proportional representation where voters have at least some influence on the order in which a party's candidates are elected. This is as opposed to closed list, which allows only active members, party officials, or consultants to determine the order of its candidates and gives the general voter no influence at all on the position of the candidates placed on the party list. Additionally, an open list system allows voters to select individuals rather than parties. Different systems give the voter different amounts of influence to change the default ranking. Pirate Party Of Austria
The Pirate Party of Austria (german: Piratenpartei Österreichs, PIRAT) is a political party in Austria and part of the global Pirate Party movement which advocates what has come to be known as Pirate politics. It is mostly known for opposing the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.
