2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships was held from 4 to 7 March 2021 at the Arena Toruń in Toruń, Poland. This was the second time this event was held in Poland after the 1975 edition in Katowice. The four-day competition featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events. Altogether 659 athletes from 46 countries participated in the event which is a record in the competition's history. The Netherlands topped the medal table for the first time with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Katarzynka, a gingerbread, was the mascot. Merel Maes (born 22 January 2005) is a Belgian high jumper. She is a multiple-time national champion. Early life A keen footballer from the age of seven, she played as a full back for East Flemish provincial team Vrasene. She started the high jump in 2017. Career 2020 In August 2020 as a 15 year-old, she won the Belgian Athletics Championships title in the high jump for the first time, setting a Belgian U16 record of 1.79 metres. 2021 In February 2021, whilst still 16 years-old, she won the high jump at the 2021 Belgian Indoor Athletics Championships with a personal best height of 1.91 metres. Salome Lang (born 18 November 1997) is a Swiss athlete who competes in the high jump. Career From Basel where she is coached by Alan Wisslé, she studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen. Lang gained her first international experience at the 2013 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Utrecht where she finished in seventh place with a jump of 1.72m. The following year she competed at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics where she reached fifth place with 1.73m jump. Morgan Lake (born 12 May 1997) is a British track and field athlete, specialising in heptathlon and the high jump. She is the 2014 World Junior champion in heptathlon and high jump, and the 2015 European Junior champion in high jump.
