2020–21 Virtus Bologna Season
The 2020–21 season is Virtus Bologna's 92nd in existence and the club's 4th consecutive season in the top flight of Italian basketball. Overview In the season 2019–20, Virtus Bologna aimed to return to the highest level of the European Basketball. However, the season was hit by the coronavirus pandemic that compelled the federation to suspend and later cancel the competition without assigning the title to anyone. Virtus Bologna ended the championship in 1st position, but the title was not assigned. After a few weeks, also EuroCup season ended, where Bologna had reached the quarter finals. In May 2020, Virtus signed Amar Alibegović, a young power forward from Virtus Roma and of the most talented young players of the championship, while in June, the club signed Amedeo Tessitori, a center of the national team from Treviso Basket, and Awudu Abass from Leonessa Brescia; Abass is a member of the national team and one of the most prominent Italian small forwards. Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna, known for sponsorship reasons as Virtus Segafredo Bologna, is an Italian professional basketball club based in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna. The club was founded in 1929, which makes it the oldest club in Italy and one of the oldest ones in Europe. Virtus is the second most titled basketball club in Italy after Olimpia Milano, having won 16 Italian Lega Basket Serie A, national championships, 8 Italian Basketball Cup, Italian National Cups and 3 Italian Basketball Supercup, Italian Supercups. 2019–20 EuroCup Basketball
The 2019–20 EuroCup Basketball season, also known as 7DAYS EuroCup for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th season of Euroleague Basketball's secondary level professional club basketball tournament. It was the 12th season since it was renamed from the ULEB Cup to the EuroCup, and the fourth season under the title sponsorship name of 7DAYS. On March 12, 2020, Euroleague Basketball temporarily suspended its competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Marco Stefano Belinelli (; born 25 March 1986) is an Italian professional basketball player and the team captain for Virtus Bologna of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague. He was selected 18th overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. In 2014, he won the NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs, becoming the first Italian player to do so. Joshua Taylor Adams (born November 16, 1993) is an American professional basketball player who is currently free agent. He played college basketball for the Wyoming Cowboys before playing professionally in Russia, Turkey, China, Australia and the NBA G League. Awudu Abass Abass (born 27 January 1993) is a naturalized Italian professional basketball player for Virtus Bologna of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague. Standing at , he plays at the small forward position. Professional career Abass joined local club Pallacanestro Cantù as a teenager, progressing quickly through the youth ranks to make his debut in 2011 aged only 18.
