2020–21 Virginia Cavaliers Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball team represented the University of Virginia during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by head coach Tony Bennett in his 12th year and played their home games at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia, as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. In a season limited by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they finished the season 18–7, 13–4 in ACC play to win their fifth regular season championship in eight seasons. They defeated Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament before they were forced to withdraw from the tournament due to COVID-19 issues. 2019–20 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 5, 2019. The first tournament was the 2K Sports Classic and the season concluded prematurely on March 12, 2020. The 2020 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was scheduled to end in Atlanta on April 6, 2020, but was ultimately canceled. All other postseason tournaments were canceled as well. Practices officially began in late September. On March 12, 2020, the NCAA announced that all remaining winter and spring championships for both men's and women's sports were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first cancellation in the history of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The NCAA did not name an official national champion after the tournament was canceled. Jabri Shareef Abdur-Rahim (born March 22, 2002) is an American college basketball player for the Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He previously played for the Virginia Cavaliers. High school career In his freshman season at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, New Jersey, Abdur-Rahim averaged 11.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and was named NJ.com Rookie of the Year. Reece Avery Beekman (born October 8, 2001) is an American basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA), on a two-way contract with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers. Early life Beekman was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana with his brother and mother when he was 13 years old. Rice Owls Men's Basketball
The Rice Owls men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of Rice University. The program is classified in the NCAA's Division I, and the team competes in Conference USA. They previously participated in the Southwest Conference (1914–1996) and the Western Athletic Conference (1996–2005). The Owls play their home games in Tudor Fieldhouse, which they have called home since 1950. The 2020 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was a planned single-elimination tournament of 68 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball national champion for the 2019–20 season.
