2020–21 Scottish Rugby Academy Season
The Scottish Rugby Academy provides Scotland's up and coming rugby stars a dedicated focused routeway for development into the professional game. Entry is restricted to Scottish qualified students and both male and female entrants are accepted into 4 regional academies. The 2020–21 season sees the sixth year of the academy, now sponsored by Fosroc. Season overview This was the six year of the Scottish Rugby Academy. Regional Academies The Scottish Rugby Academy runs four regional academies in Scotland:- Glasgow and the West, Borders and East Lothian, Edinburgh and Caledonia. These roughly correspond to the traditional districts of Glasgow District (rugby union), Glasgow District, South of Scotland rugby union team, South, Edinburgh District (rugby union), Edinburgh District and North and Midlands. Scottish Rugby Academy
The Scottish Rugby Academy, for sponsorship reasons the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy, is a national academy structure designed to give Scotland's young rugby stars a pathway into the professional game. The academy structure is based on 4 regional academies geographically based on the traditional districts of Glasgow District. Edinburgh District, North and Midlands and South. Background The regional academies were launched at the University of Aberdeen’s Hillhead campus on 1 October 2014 at the flagship academy in Caledonia, which is a combination of North and Midlands regions. The Academies are open to the best talent, male and female, from the age of 14 onwards. The initial focus will be on players within the 16, 18 and 20-year-old age-groups and the top tier of the academy, stage three, will replace the current Elite Development Player strand within the pro-clubs. Max Williamson
Max Williamson (born 5 August 2002) is a Scotland international rugby union player who plays for Glasgow Warriors at the Lock position. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played with Stirling County from the age of 4, before joining the Dollar Academy set-up. Professional career Williamson joined Glasgow Warriors in 2020, initially with the Scottish Rugby Academy, before graduating from the academy with a permanent deal with the Glasgow club in 2022. He made his debut for Glasgow Warriors in a 'A' match against Edinburgh Rugby on 4 February 2021 at a closed doors match at Scotstoun Stadium.
