2020–21 Gibraltar Women's Football League
The 2020–21 Gibraltar Women's Football League is the fifth season of 11-a-side women's football in Gibraltar since the territory joined UEFA in 2013, and FIFA in 2016. The league had been in operation for a number of years previously, but teams were ineligible for entry to the UEFA Women's Champions League as it was only a 9-a-side tournament. Lincoln Red Imps Women were the reigning champions, but disbanded their women's team in summer 2020. After only two games, the league paused on 15 December 2020, before resuming on 25 May 2021. While the first two games of the season were played at Victoria Stadium, resurfacing at the ground meant that the restarted league was played on pitch at the Devil's Tower Camp, with permission from Gibraltar's Ministry of Defence. Gibraltar Women's Football League
The Gibraltar Women's Football League is the top level amateur women's football championship of Gibraltar. Due to the lack of resources available for women's football, the league has been contested by five teams since 2021, and the league is treated as a development competition. This status means that, as of the 2021 season, clubs are ineligible to enter the UEFA Women's Champions League. History The earliest known record of the competition dates back to 1999, when three teams (Manchester United, Lions and Victoria United) took part. However, the league was seemingly abandoned mid-season with Manchester United top of the table. Devil's Tower Camp
Devil's Tower Camp is a military installation located just south-east of Gibraltar International Airport on the isthmus between Spain and Gibraltar. History The site dates back to 1713 when Spain ceded land to the United Kingdom under the Treaty of Utrecht. The camp was established in 1942 as an RAF barracks to support RAF Gibraltar during the World War II, Second World War and was located conveniently close to the airfield. The facilities, which were increasingly used by the British Army after the War, became the home of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. They were expanded and refurbished to provide a new catering complex and single living accommodation for some 450 troops in 2009. 2021–22 UEFA Women's Champions League
The 2021–22 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 21st edition of the European women's club football championship organised by UEFA, and the 13th edition since being rebranded as the UEFA Women's Champions League. It was the first edition to feature a 16-team group stage. The final was held at the Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy. Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Victoria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar. It is currently used mostly for football matches, but also hosts the annual Gibraltar Music Festival. It is located close to Gibraltar Airport just off Winston Churchill Avenue. It was named after the wife of Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh. Despite initial plans to replace the stadium in the 2010s, the Gibraltar Football Association purchased the stadium from the Government of Gibraltar in April 2017 in order to improve and renovate it.
