2020–21 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 2020–21 Atlanta Hawks season was the 72nd season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the 53rd in Atlanta. On March 1, 2021, head coach Lloyd Pierce was fired after a 14–20 start and replaced by Nate McMillan, who would serve out the remainder of the year as interim head coach. On May 12, the Hawks clinched their first playoff appearance since 2017, ending their four-year playoff drought. On May 15, The Hawks clinched their first Southeast Division title since 2014–15 when the Miami Heat lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 122–108. The Hawks surprised many on their playoff run as they went on to defeat the fourth seeded New York Knicks in five games in the first round. Lloyd Pierce
Lloyd Daniel Pierce (born May 11, 1976) is an American basketball coach who serves as the lead assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has previously coached for the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Atlanta Hawks. In addition to coaching, he has also played internationally. Playing career Pierce made the varsity of Yerba Buena High School as a freshman in 1990. He loved playing defense and was considered one of the best-ever players from the San Jose area. He earned a full basketball scholarship to Santa Clara University. With future NBA players Steve Nash and Marlon Garnett, the Santa Clara Broncos made the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament three times in four years from 1993 to 1996. 2020–21 New York Knicks Season
The 2020–21 New York Knicks season was the 75th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). On July 30, 2020, the Knicks hired Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach. Fan attendance in home games was prohibited until February 23, 2021, per an executive order from then-Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo. The Knicks reopened Madison Square Garden to spectators on February 23. On May 3, with a 118–104 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, the Knicks clinched their first winning season since the 2012–13 season. NBA G League
The NBA G League, or simply the G League, is the National Basketball Association's (NBA) official List of developmental and minor sports leagues, minor league basketball organization. The league was known as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) from 2001 to 2005, and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) from 2005 until 2017. The league started with eight teams until NBA commissioner David Stern announced a plan to expand the NBA D-League to 15 teams and develop it into a true minor league farm team, farm system, with each NBA D-League team affiliated with one or more NBA teams in March 2005. Christopher Matthew Jent (born January 11, 1970) is an American basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was formerly the head coach of the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. Early life and college career Jent was born in Orange, California and grew up in Sparta, New Jersey. Melvin Hunt (born December 15, 1969) is an American professional basketball coach who last served as an assistant coach of the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early life A native of Tallulah, Louisiana, Hunt earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in education from Baylor University where he spent four years on the basketball team. Marlon Garnett
Marlon Errol Garnett (born July 3, 1975) is an American-Belizean coach and former professional basketball player, currently an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. Career Nicknamed "Money G", Garnett played collegiately for the Broncos of Santa Clara University, winning West Coast Conference player of the year honors in 1997. Garnett entered the National Basketball Association in February 1999, signing with the Boston Celtics as an undrafted free agent. South Gwinnett High School (SGHS) is a public high school for students in grades 9–12. The school is located in Snellville, Georgia, United States. Skylar Justin Mays (born September 5, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the LSU Tigers. Onyeka Okongwu (born December 11, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
