2020 Serbia Men's OQT Basketball Team
The 2020 Serbia men's OQT basketball team represented Serbia at the 2020 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia in June and July 2021. The team coached by Igor Kokoškov and led by team captain Miloš Teodosić failed to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Background Serbia were qualified for the Qualification tournament by taking the 5th place at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. On 15 November 2019, the Basketball Federation of Serbia has awarded the hosting right of one out of four FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. On 13 March 2020, FIBA suspended all FIBA competitions considering the situation with the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup
The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. The tournament was hosted in China and was rescheduled from 2018 to 2019, becoming the first since 1967 FIBA World Championship, 1967 that did not occur in the same year as the FIFA World Cup (which was held the previous year). Nikola Jokić ( sr-cyr, Никола Јокић, (); born February 19, 1995) is a Serbian professional basketball player for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) who plays the center position. Alen Smailagić ( sr-cyr, Ален Смаилагић; born 18 August 2000) is a Serbian professional basketball player for Partizan Belgrade of the Serbian KLS, the Adriatic League and the EuroLeague. Smailagić was the youngest player in history to play in the NBA G League. Early career Smailagić was born in Belgrade, FR Yugoslavia (present-day Serbia). EuroBasket 2022
The EuroBasket 2022 was the 41st edition of the EuroBasket championship organized by FIBA Europe. It was the first since it was agreed it would take place every four years, with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. It was originally scheduled to take place between 2 and 19 September 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics to 2021, it was postponed to September 2022. Like the previous two editions, the tournament was co-hosted by four countries. Games in the group stage were held in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, and Italy. The knock-out phase was played in Berlin, Germany. The EuroBasket 2022 qualification was a basketball competition that was played from November 2017 to February 2021, to determine the 20 FIBA Europe nations who would join the automatically qualified co-hosts Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, and Germany at the EuroBasket 2022 finals tournament. Pre-Qualifiers The EuroBasket 2022 Pre-Qualifiers were played by 17 teams over three rounds. The best eight teams advanced to the EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers. First round The pre-qualifiers first round was played by nine teams: Five eliminated in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup pre-qualifiers, and four teams that did not enter in those qualifiers.
