2020 Northern Cypriot Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 11 October 2020 alongside a 2020 Northern Cypriot constitutional referendum, constitutional referendum, with a run-off held on 18 October 2020. They were originally scheduled to take place on 26 April 2020, but were postponed in March 2020 for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Northern Cyprus, COVID-19 pandemic. No candidate won a majority of votes in the first round. The two candidates contesting the second round were Mustafa Akıncı, the incumbent President running as an independent candidate and supporting a federal solution to the Cyprus dispute, and Ersin Tatar, the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus, Prime Minister, running as the National Unity Party (Northern Cyprus), National Unity Party candidate, and opposing a federal solution in favour of a two-state solution. Ersin Tatar
Ersin Tatar (born 7 September 1960) is a Turkish Cypriot politician, and the current president of Northern Cyprus. He became the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus, prime minister following the collapse of the coalition government of Tufan Erhürman in May 2019 and served until his own election as president. He was also the leader of the National Unity Party (Northern Cyprus), National Unity Party (UBP) and served as Leader of the Opposition, leader of the opposition. Kudret Özersay
Kudret Özersay (born 16 December 1973) is a Turkish Cypriot academic, diplomat and politician. A scholar in international politics by profession, he served in the negotiations to solve the Cyprus dispute between 2002 and 2012 and in 2014. He was the Special Representative of the President of Northern Cyprus between 2010 and 2012 and again in 2014. He established and led the Toparlanıyoruz Movement and is one of the founders and the current leader of People's Party. Education Özersay studied international relations at Ankara University. Left Movement ( ca, Moviment d'Esquerres, MES) is a social-democratic, pro-independence political party in Catalonia. Communal Liberation Party New Forces ( tr, Toplumcu Kurtuluş Partisi Yeni Güçler, TKP-YG) is a centre-left political party in Northern Cyprus. It is led by Mehmet Çakıcı. It was founded in 2016 after a group headed by Çakıcı broke off from the Communal Democracy Party (TDP). Çakıcı and former MP Mustafa Emiroğluları resigned from the TDP on 25 November 2016. This was followed by the resignation of 70 other members of the TDP, mostly originating from the historical Communal Liberation Party (TKP), on 28 November 2016. The Rebirth Party ( tr, Yeniden Doğuş Partisi, YDP) is a political party in Northern Cyprus. It was founded on 7 October 2016. Its leader is Erhan Arıklı, a professor, and its Secretary General is Turan Büyükyılmaz.
