2020 New York's 27th Congressional District Special Election
A special election was held to fill the remainder of the term in the United States House of Representatives for in the 116th United States Congress. Incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican Representative Chris Collins (New York politician), Chris Collins resigned from the House effective October 1, 2019, following his guilty plea to federal insider trading charges. The election was originally scheduled for April 28, 2020, but was postponed until June 23, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state), COVID-19 pandemic. New York's 27th Congressional District
The 27th congressional district of New York was a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in western New York. It included all of Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, and Livingston counties and parts of Erie, Monroe, Niagara, and Ontario counties. The district contained most of the eastern and southern suburbs of Buffalo, most of the southern suburbs of Rochester, as well as large rural areas to the east and south. The seat was last occupied by Republican Chris Jacobs, who won a special election on June 23, 2020. The 26th congressional district of New York is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in Western New York. It includes parts of Erie and Niagara counties. The district includes the cities of Buffalo, Lackawanna, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, and North Tonawanda. The office of representative for this district became vacant on February 9, 2011, following the resignation of Republican Chris Lee. Grand Island is an island town in Erie County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 21,389 representing an increase of 5.00% from the 2010 census figure. Stephen M. Hawley (born 1947) is a Republican member of the New York State Assembly. He represents Assembly District 139, which comprises portions of Genesee, Monroe, Niagara, and Orleans counties.
