2020 Nebraska Legislature Election
The 2020 Nebraska State Legislature elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections. Nebraska voters elected state senators in the 25 odd-numbered seats of the 49 legislative districts in the Nebraska Unicameral. State senators serve four-year terms in the unicameral Nebraska Legislature. A top two primary election on May 12, 2020 determined which candidates appear on the November 3 general election ballot. Each candidate technically runs as a non-partisan (i.e., no party preference). The Nebraska State Legislature's website offers a statewide map of the 49 legislative districthereand maps for each individual district can be found on the website. Nebraska Legislature
The Nebraska Legislature (also called the Unicameral) is the legislature of the U.S. state of Nebraska. The Legislature meets at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. With 49 members, known as "senators", the Nebraska Legislature is the smallest state legislature of any U.S. state. Unlike the legislatures of the other 49 U.S. states and the U.S. Congress, the Nebraska Legislature is a unicameral legislature, thus not separated into two houses. It is also nonpartisan, and does not officially recognize its members' political party affiliations. Sara Howard (politician)
Sara Howard (born September 24, 1981) is a politician from the U.S. state of Nebraska. In 2012, she was elected to the Nebraska Legislature, representing an Omaha district. Howard was born in Omaha in 1981, the daughter of Gwen Howard and David Howard; her father was killed in a car accident before her birth. She graduated from Omaha's Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in 1999. In 2003, she received a B.A. from Smith College; in 2008, a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. From 2009 to 2011, she worked as a staff attorney for the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition, then moved to Omaha, where she worked as a development specialist for OneWorld Community Health Centers. The League of Women Voters (LWV or the League) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan political organization in the United States. Founded in 1920, its ongoing major activities include registering voters, providing voter information, and advocating for voting rights. John Peter Ricketts (born August 19, 1964) is an American politician serving as the 40th governor of Nebraska since 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party. John Murante (born February 6, 1982) is an American politician serving as the 44th and current Nebraska State Treasurer since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he previously was elected to the unicameral Nebraska Legislature from 2013 until 2019, representing District 49. Sue Crawford (born January 10, 1967) née Sue Steinhauser, is a politician from the U.S. state of Nebraska. She represents District 45, which includes the city of Bellevue and Offutt Air Force Base, in the Nebraska Legislature.
